UP SD40-2 Wrote:....I also STARTED going through boxes and taking inventory on my engines,....
I thought that is a lot of space when you posted the first photos of the layout under construction. I learned now that is the minimum space for your inventory :o Confusedhock:
I wish I could run long trains with those beautiful engines!

Deano, it is so good to see you back with enthusiasm. I think you may be contagious. I am glad you got that locomotive running, I am just assuming you have a decoder in it.
Keep it up.

I now have two thirds of my engines out for easy access, and I have about half of my freight cars out, just not enough room for it all Nope , not to mention my 8 passenger trains Wink . The rest will just be stored under the layout and I'll bring them out from time to time.

I am pretty much at a stand still now until I can get my back drop, I hope to start that this weekend, we will see. After the back drop I'll be a plastering fool Misngth .

Torikoos, I too like SP, its just I am modeling the UP "merger" years Wink .

Gus, (I know you were just kidding Thumbsup ) Now you know I am a steam fan, just don't have enough room to keep it all out. As you seen, I do keep six steamers out though  .
Here's what I have for steam:

And last, but not least, a Ten wheeler, this was my very first engine I ever had, bought in 1972. I picked it out at the hobby shop for Christmas to run on dads layout he had at that time. This is an old tyco, and still runs Eek , not well, but it still does Thumbsup . The smoke stack is broke off, I just set it up on the engine for the pic, I plan on repainting this engine too.

OK...I take it back...

Funny thing...My very first engine was that very same engine....It does run, but really terrible.
Now it just sits on a shelf looking pretty...

Deano, you might want to try a short mirror against the stub end of the locomotive tracks, angle it slightly so you can't see yourself in it and it will give the illusion of twice the depth and twice the number of locomotives looks like maybe 3 inch X 12 inch would do it. You used to be able to get the cutoffs at a glass shop cheap. Then you can hide the mirror edges in the scenery.

Gus, wow, really? your first engine was the same exact engine as mine?...Great minds do think alike

Charlie, I have done that trick on a layout my dad and I had in the past, though it was to make a highway look longer Thumbsup . Might do that on here too Wink .

Steve, Thanks! I hope many of you remember and enjoy my engine collection Thumbsup .

Torikoos, it was the patched engines that made the merger years so colorful for the UP Thumbsup .

UPDATE:
Well, I bought 3 4x8 sheets of hardboard, cut them in half and it gave me enough background to do all three sides of the layout Applause I haven't put it all up yet but its all painted, I set a couple pieces up on the layout just to see how it will look, my lighting is a bit wonky as I us different lighting thought the layout :? , but I'll deal with it, by the time I airbrush in the clouds and add scenery it should work out fine.

You do have a nice fleet, and I agree on the 'colorful', but it does hurt a little....
