Scenic backdrops -- art boards / art supplies?
#1
Has anyone tried using art boards for scenic backdrops for layouts? I was at an artstore recently, and was impressed by the strength and how light weight their art boards were. I also recall that they weren't too expensive.

The only problem is getting one that is the right size / dimensions for my layout, which would be 68" long by 8-9" tall. So I'd probably have to buy something and cut it down.

Has anyone else used such art supplies or have other suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

are you going to paint your own or glue on a printed backscene?
Most of mine are on foamcore, but I find that they tend to warp a bit for some reason. I make them in units and glue bits on behind the joints. I haven't tried the artboard.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

Thanks, David. In Photoshop, I merged 3 panoramic shots together (that I took of the Downs in Southern England a few years ago) and I plan to get a photo print made of this. Then I would like to glue it onto the back scene.

The art board -- or illustration board -- is like thick, fairly strong but light cardboard. I could consider foamcore as well.

Cheers, Rob
