Chat room opinion

Does anyone here use our chat room anymore? Let me go check.......... uh, NO, one post there this year and it didn't belong, a few last year and gee, nobody is really chatting anymore, at least not like the old days. There was a time with our old chat room, that there was a specific time that we got together and just talked about anything. Anyone got any ideas to get things going again? We can do a few things, one is when we make changes to Big Blue, get an improved chat room that might attract some, or we can just do away with it if there's no interest. Packey says that the new software could include a choice of some better chat rooms than what we have now, but we need to know if it's worth his time to implement one....

Anyone got any thoughts on the subject??????

I think that may be all we need EZ. Or instead of this chat room, we could use one of those audio chat rooms like a lot of those PC gamers use. Most of those allow you to do things like post pics and links, PM, set up privet chat rooms for different topics, and still have a text option for the chat room.

The times I have dropped in, it has been a solid list of birthday greetings - no subjects whatsoever under discussion.

I would be happy to find some topics for discussion, whether railroad related or not as the case might be. Just - please - no politics. Nope

You're probably not aware that we have a Mini-chat" room (click on Mini-chat at the top right of a page and basically, off the forum as we know it) where there can be a group of people in the "room" and can talk to each other as if they were physically there. Everyone in the main room can see what you're saying, if you want to talk in private with someone, you can move to a private room where your conversations are no longer public. I don't know if chat rooms are still in vogue or have gone out with the dodo bird, the 386 chip and the TRS-80, being replaced by Facebook or other social media sites. What I'm saying is that we can try to improve what we've got there, or just put it to bed and let it rest.

I think most of the typing style chat rooms have fallen off with the advent of skype and other video/phone chatting services. I used the old style chat a bunch, but the current version I never seemed to catch anyone on at the same time I was there. My opinion is to pull the plug and maybe have a place to post a list of skype addresses for those to chat.

I only once found anyone else on the chat room. I think I get on the computer later than most people.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.
