trestle too base
#1
Just completing a couple large curved trestles and was wondering what you's have used to sit the trestle bent footings to the scenery? I'm thinking of using 3/16 x3/16 basswood painted concrete colour attached to the bent base then to the scenery base.

You can see what I mean in the photo where the 3/16 square is under the bottom of one of the bents

and the second

Fantastic looking trestle, time and patience shows... As far as advice, I would just look around to see what others have done and get some ideas that way.

Awesome trestle Lynn.
I have made bridge piers out of wood and they looked great when painted and weathered. These are made out of foam. The paint and weathering look awful in the pic as the camera flash has totally changed the colour. It does look better in real life. These were my first attempt at using foam for piers.

In real life, trestles like yours have solid bases for their bents, whether made of timbers and filled with rocks, cast from concrete or made of heavy stones fitted into solid columns or abutments. The trestle and the train together represent a lot of weight in the real world.

Then there is the issue of how the whole thing fits - and anchors - best on your layout.

You may get some ideas from this site:

That is beautiful work, by the way. Thumbsup
