Thanks for the friendly comments.

The dark blue awnings were beautiful but did not match the overall theme of the layout.
The two right stores are from the 3.rd Ave too. The blue shop is south in another borough but very well known to this audience. I could not resist....
I mixed the windows of Trainland and the shop signs of Trainworld due to construction work blocking most of the view of Trainworld.
The furniture store was closed when Street View passed by on 3.rd Ave. but open when approaching from Elton Ave. but I got no useful photos of the storefront. Therefor the closed shutters.

I am thinking how to do the very west end while building the background structures. One option would be a heap of containers. I got my old ones out of the box but I need much more. I learned about the prices :o Are they made of gold this days Eek

Paper is the answer!
I got mine from the page of a nice Dutch modeler and printed them on max.thick Laserjet paper. The files are in 1:160 scale. Do not forget to print them with 184% for 1:87 scale.

The background building in the center are completed and the sidewalk is glued down.

I am unhappy with the long gray concrete wall between the two building clusters. It was a stopgap but I need to do something better in that space.
(ignore the shed. It is a placeholder for "something" to justify the track)

The Cornerstone Ashmore Hotel kit came with various styles of large windows and doors for the first floor.
That is a nice starting point to create a string of six stores and cover 25" of the gap . It will take some time to find suitable stores with Street View and extract and resize the required images.

A cornerstone store kit is truncated to less than 1 inch and fills the last gap.

I can already see the crime rate going up, the traffic congestion getting worse and the cost of living sky rocketing!!! That's going to be an amazing city scene. Thumbsup

The gap between the two building clusters is closed. All stores have been handed over to their tenants.

Thanks for the nice comments.

It is amazing how many trees are along the streets of NYC (and block street view). Just a little detail at the end of the day.

The spare rear walls of the buildings are prepared to be used as background buildings. They will be the back side of a block behind the container yard.
This is a first test and will be continued later after other spots are completed on the layout.

The two buildings from the very east end

are moved to the west end.

and get replaced by Lunde Kit "Bon Ton". The kit is designed to form a corner but need a flat front. This full hight building emphasizes the large city theme better.
My next job... window frame painting....
