Today was one of those special days in my hometown---I spotted SD70ACU #6644 with a Heritage unit #7016 as they passed through Kinnear Yard on train 246 south.#6644 is one of Canadian Pacific's "Support our Troops" specially painted locomotives to honour both Canadian and American Armed Forces---this unit is painted and numbered to commemorate D-Day---thus the number 6-6-44.

Nice catches Ed. Was it luck or do you get a heads up? I have email alerts set up on heritageunits.com but I don't know if you can do that in Canada. I have mine set for a 75 mile radius of Salem Ohio so I do get timely heads up if someone posts. Not many are posting the older ones anymore, probably because the novelty has worn off. Charlie

Hi Charlie---I belong to a facebook group :"CPR Hamilton Sub" and the members are very good in keeping everyone updated on train activity over this division.I'm familiar with the trains through Kinnear Yard---142/143,246/247 and 254/255---so whenever there is a notice on these trains and an approximate time I try to check out the action (when I can get off my leash)---lately the action at Kinnear has been very good with the rebuilt SD70ACU locomotives becoming regulars and occasionally something unique such as BNSF and Central Maine and Quebec power.Today I had a "heads up" 247 was heading through Kinnear around 1pm so I was down at the yard to catch this train---here's some photos.
If you get a chance check out the facebook page on google---CPR Hamilton Sub. P1400955 (2) by Ed Creechan, on Flickr P1400952 (3) by Ed Creechan, on Flickr P1400957 (2) by Ed Creechan, on Flickr P1400960 (2) by Ed Creechan, on Flickr

With all the recent interest in CP's Heritage and Support Our Troops SD70ACU locomotives their "standard" units have been taken for granted---here's one of the undecorated versions at Kinnear Yard.

I found this picture of a C47 Skytrain plane used during the D-Day invasion---this is the paint scheme used on CP SD70ACU #6644

They have a C47 as well as a Fairchild C123K provider called Thunderpig. Both are often flown. The provider has been in some movies too. https://airheritage.org/museum/, and they too have a facebook presence. Charlie

Recently I have been posting pictures of Canadian Pacific's "Support our Troops" SD70 ACU locomotives. Here's the tribute to the Air Force version based on the F18 jet fighter.

I headed out today hoping to catch another one of CP's Heritage locomotives which was leading train 247 through Kinnear Yard. After a long wait without any sign of this train I decided to head down to the CN Stuart Yard to see what was happening there---within minutes I spotted a train heading into the yard with one of the Canadian Cowl diesels #2441 leading train 421.CN has been selling these locomotives so this may be one of the last of this type still in active service---it turned out to be a very good day afterall.

Isn't it nice when a potential bad day turns itself around. Nice photos, Ed!

A photo from the Doug Page collection taken in my hometown in 1962 inspired me to try to recreate a similiar scene at Leetown.

Very cool! I think it is really neat when a photo can be recreated or give inspiration in model railroading.
