Another LHS closes
#1
Not sure how many folks are Toronto-based, but I recently found out that one of my favourite LHS's is closing -- Hornet Hobbies (http://www.hornethobbies.com/)

I've been going there since 2004 and have really enjoyed the fellowship there. Their last day is this coming Sunday (Jan. 13). The main cause is problems caused by the construction of the Eglinton LRC, but there are 1-2 other factors as well. Details on their website.

Really sad to see them go. 20% sale until Sunday. I've been there a couple times this past week and it just feels sad to be there as the store winds down.

Just FYI and to commiserate with any other Ontario modellers who will miss them.

Yup, it is a sad day when yet another shop closes thanks to progress in other areas such as the addition of light rail. It's happening here as well, stores, restaurants and businesses of all types closing or moving on while government takes years to complete construction and disrupts the lives of many people along the way. That, plus the Internet competition is not making it any easier for local stores to stay profitable. At least this guy is going to try to relocate, most just shut down. One LHS here moved several time before shutting for good, but still maintaining their Internet store.

Thanks, Don. Yes, it's sad and I will miss them. They may "reinvent" themselves at some point, but we'll see. Their reasons for closing are mainly due to the road/LRT construction & the fact that their lease is up. An unfortunate combination of logistics. At least the owner is going to still be active with clinics, online videos, etc.

Fortunately, I still have other LHS options but nothing quite as convenient -- I was spoiled as this shop was only about a mile away. They were particularly good for paints and glues, and I might be able to find those at another LHS that specializes in cars and planes! The owner also has a connection there, so that will help.
