Hi guys,

So i have been buying a few buildings from the Cornerstone Series for a guy that im doing some custom work for. So far, i have the Champion Packing Plant, the Prairie Star Milling Building and the Prairie Star Grain Elevator, and a large double track bridge that spans 36" on my plate from him lol.

I got the 3 buildings yesterday from the LHS and started on the Champion Packing Plant first, and i just finished it about an hour ago, estimated time spent assembling, painting, detailing, and weathering was about 12.5 hours. Here are some pics of the packing plant, tell me what you guys think of it?

Oh yeah! That's some good industrial looking weathering! Nice color choices and convincing stains and smudges! Thumbsup

Beautiful work! Thumbsup
Overall - really good looking! Cheers I like the dirt coming off the a/c compressor...if you're looking for a suggestion, I'd add a few broken windows here and there for character. Any chance you could add any internal cables, machines, or such? With all those windows and the ability to look through the building sections - you could really have some opportunities to add interior details. Great job!!
Looks good! Weathering is really great.

One comment - watch your seams... The water tower and the upper corner (visible in photo #6) both have seams that are visible. You may need to sand or file, or even use more clamps to get the best result.

I agree with the suggestion to add some interior detail. Depending on what is to be modelled, simple, dark blocky shapes may suffice. I would also consider adding some exterior details too, like electric cables, or other piping. A good example can be seen at Val's (Spitfire) website at www.parkdaleyard.com

Good stuff! Thumbsup Thumbsup

Looks good, Josh. Thumbsup Nice choice of colours and a nice touch on the weathering, too. I also like the angles from which you took many of the pictures - the building seems to loom over the viewer. I do agree with Andrew, though: it's worth the time and effort to correct those errant joints, as they detract from an otherwise impressive-looking structure.

Another excellent job Trucklover! The weathering is amazing and the detail is great!

Keep up the good work! Thumbsup

Like how you got realistic weathering on there if you were building it for yours some interior detail and lighting would be good

I've been at this hobby for enough years, that I'm comfortable enough with my own abilities to be willing to learn from others. I have nothing to prove, only to improve. I'm not ashamed to admit that I look to others for inspiration, and when it comes to creating a believable scene, I look to Val's work. Just the right amount of detail, just the right placement of everything, and not just the photograph. Viewing her layout is more like "flying over that part of town". Yes, it is a talent......but the technique can be learned. One must first be willing to take the learning journey, which sometimes means admitting to self that improvement can be made, and then seeking the inspiration to learn from, to make that improvement.

That said, well used modular buildings! Well thought, well built, lookin' good!!

Guys, thanks for all the comments and compliments, i really appreciate them. When the guy i did this for saw the pictures, he loved it which is always a good thing!! lol

If i was to use this for my own personal use, i would consider adding interior details and more details on the exterior and such, but since i custom built it for someone, i will not be doing any more work on it. I would also have to charge alot more for the extra added details, which he might be up for depending on what is done, but i think he will like it just fine like this, and if hes up for it, perhaps he can add more details and such Misngth

Ill have to get a pic up here with the decals on the building, i lettered it for Champion Packing Co. After i spray it will flat finish and weather the sigh a bit ill post a final pic....

Honestly, i didnt even notice the seams on the water tower when i was assembling it. I know i should have sanded those joints like i did with all the others, but i must have been thinking about something else when i was building it lol. Im quite embarrassed by that seam, it is pretty bad   lol

The other large seams between the buildings are just there because each building is separate from each other, and i just layed them out for the suggested layout for the structure footprint....

Once again, i would like to thank everyone for all the compliments and suggestions on the little things that could be improved, they really mean alot and its nice to get good and honest feedback when it is asked for Misngth
D'oh! I didn't realize you were doing it for someone else! Never mind about the comments regarding the interior or the broken windows...of course if the buyer didn't want it, you wouldn't add it.

Overall, you did a nice job!

I like the idea of broken windows and such details like that though, thanks for the suggestion Herc, that could make a sweet little detail and really give the structure that little added detail to make it spring to life Misngth
