Every so often on the radio, I hear the morning DJ's talking about a national day of... such and such. Today (May 6th) was the Great American Grump Out, tomorrow (May 7th) is the National day of prayer, and May 8th is World Red Cross day. About now you're probably thinking... interesting but so what? Well, it just so turns out that Saturday, May 9th is
National Train Day!
Thumbsup
Amtrak chose May 10 for National Train Day because it is the anniversary of the first transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point, Utah, in 1869.
That's really something. I would never have known that. I really had to dig in that site to see if there was any kind of activity there in Utah, and there was:
Quote:Ogden, UT
Wasatch Division, RMR, NMRA
10:30 AM - 03:00 PM
Golden Spike NHS
We will be going to Golden Spike National Historic Site and then back to Ogden to see the Steam engine that Union Pacific Steam is displaying. Meet at the Golden Spike National Historic Site at 11:00 am by the flag pole. For More Info: Visit www.nps.gov/gosp
I was also surprised to find several places here in Arizona that are helping to commemorate the occasion. I've never been to the RR museum in Chandler, have you?

And lest you might forget, May 10 is also:

MOTHER'S DAY
There's a RR museum in Chandler? I'll have to go check it out next time we're on that side of town... might be a year or two though.

Yes and of course, we can't forget our dear old mums.
RR museum in chandler - lots of interesting equipment, but nothing operating. And go on a cool day, because it is all outside.
I've actually seen that museum!!!!! We have friends whose parents live in Chandler and invited us to visit with them a few years ago!

Today, May 11 is our national Eat What You Want day. Not that everybody in America doesn't seem to do that already. Seems like any fast food restraunt I go to anymore, I order a small Coke and it comes back a 44oz'er. Lately I've been specifying that I want a kids sized drink to get something that resembles a small.

Just ask for the senior sized drink. It's so small that even with free refills, it's almost impossible to drink too much. Besides, think of all the exercise you get going back to get those refills. 357

Am I weird that "what I want" right now are tomatoes and okra? Icon_lol
Not to go off topic here....But....
Its like my railroad. You don't like it.....Don't look at it!
Same thing what I eat.
I don't need Big Brother telling me whats good for me or not. I know. I do get Discovery Channel, I can read the paper, and I watch the news every night. I don't need to get slammed every day that having a hot dog with the works is bad for me. I know that. Its my choice on what I eat, what I drink. Is going outside to get a "breath of fresh air" any good for you? Not any more. There's so much pathegoens, so much heavy metal floating around in the air, that just breathing can kill you.
So don't tell me I have to eat healthy. Besides, even the "healthy foods" are starting to turn up with ecoli on it now. Don't look at me funny in the resturant, while I wolf down my pizza, while your eating a salad out of a glass bowl. Think thats healthy? Ever go in the back and see who's washing the dishes?

Now if you'll excuse me. As soon as I finish my cidgerette, I'm going to Micky D's and get a Big Mac, Large fries, and maybe a Quarter Pounder on the side.

Now that's not nice. You know that I'm a confirmed fudgeaholic and am trying to stay off the stuff. Icon_lol Fortunately, my Fudgeaholics Unanimous meeting is tonight... I'll bring a copy of your recipe when I go. Thumbsup Thumbsup

That's sort of odd that those of us that live so close to the museum have never been there and that a member half way across the country has.
Maybe us members in AZ. should all get together and visit the museum as a group.
That sounds like fun Ray! I'd be in for it. Too bad it's already gotten hot down here.

Yea, maybe we could plan it for this fall or winter.
