Hi guys, i just spent the day building this structure for a member on another forum, Scale Rails Online. His name is Dustin and he asked me to build a HUGE grain elevator for him. So he sent me the kits (3 Walthers N Scale ADM Grain Elevators) and i spent today building this HUGE structure.

The main Structure measures about 2-3/4" long x 3-1/4" wide (4-3/4" long x 3-1/4" wide with the large hopper car shed), and the silo structure measures about 29-1/2" long x 2-3/4" wide. All together it measures about 34-1/4" long x 3-1/4" wide. The Silo structure has 2 rows of 23 silos, making a total of 46 silos!

The entire structure is made to be set against a wall, so the back side has been left open. There are a total of 4 Cargill Signs on the structure. One of them is located on the front of the silo structure, 2 more along the side of the silo structure, and 1 more on the side of the main structure. It was painted white with Gray Conveyor Housing, Hopper Car Shed, Doors, and Roof Top Machinery.

Here are some overall pictures of this MASSIVE structure

Just thought i would snap some pics off and share with you guys before i box this up and send it off to Dustin Misngth
EGAD!! Eek Thumbsup
WOW!!! That thing is a monster - but GREAT! Nice Job!!!!
WOW..Thats huge! Told you those Walthers N scale silos were big.
Gotta watch those seams though. That last silo's seam sticks out like a UP engine in a consist of CSX "Dark Future" locos.
Other than that, looks good.

Holy Cow - for some reason I am reminded of a classic movie scene, where actor Paul Hogan says "That's not a knife, this is a knife" and then pulls out a huge bush knife in the old movie Crocodile Dundee.

What we have here is indeed a most respectable elevator. Almost makes me think I should have gone for N scale, so I could have considered something like this on my layout - but two rows of 12 H0 silos is about the most I can sensibly fit onto my own layout.

Still - it is a sight that will gladden the heart of any grain train affectionado. Great work, Josh!

OMG Icon_lol great structure Josh ......... 88 is right the seam could do with a clean up on the end silo.
How many grain cars would it take to feed that grain terminal? 357

Makes mine look small..

WOW!

Great job! Thumbsup
Now that's a structure worthy of rail service! Thumbsup
I agree with the others, though: that seam needs to be cleaned-up. The silos for these kits, in both N and HO, were, in my opinion, poorly designed and poorly executed, too, making them difficult to assemble without the seams showing. Also, if the back of the structure is open, make sure that it's braced sufficiently to keep it from flexing, or you may have more seams opening-up later. Some bracing under the roof of the silos, spaced at intervals (a series of inverted triangles of .060" sheet styrene, cemented to the underside of the roof and to the interior of the front wall of the silo) will also help to prevent sagging as the structure ages.

That thing is MASSIVE!!!
Great job!
FANTASTIC!! Eek
