You could try a simple switch list - basically the list of jobs that the train crew needs to do on the given "turn" or way freight. Starting with a list of cars in the train, you'd have listed in order the various drops and lifts by industry as the train would encounter them. Or you can simply list all the drops together and all the lifts. I find this a bit confusing, because you are constantly having to scan the entire list.

This approach does not require all the "overhead" of creating car cards and way bills, but has the downside of not being reusable unless you set up the exact same scenario some time in the future. However, even this is possible as the cars cycle through the layout from industry to staging and back.
