Does anyone know of a company that makes store fronts......I mean just the fronts of stores or apartments.....that you could use on the back of a layout sort of like a backboard ??????? But it would only be about the thickness of the front of a structure.

I guess the answer depends on what sort of storefront you are looking for.
Walthers has shallow relief "backdrop" style buildings - I don't recall if they include storefronts, but there are some industrial buildings. DPM and Walthers both make modulars which might be suitable. You could always take the fronts from building kits, keeping the backs for another scene, although this is a relatively expensive way to go.
Depending on the detail required, you could also scratchbuild by layering styrene up to get a bit of surface detail without too much difficulty or complexity, as suggested in the other thread.

When adding the window linings i cut two top liners from 30 thou plasticard and another end liner for the left side to add to the kit parts.
80 thou floors were put in for a few reasons a little more strenth .... interior details can be added at a later date and they provide a surface to attach the LED's to for lighting.

Extra plastic strips were added to give the impression of half open windows ......... I am hoping to source some 1:87 items for the window displays before fitting LED's & plasticard backs to them.
How deep and how much detail are you looking for? You may want to see Ralph's thread about sprucing up his semi 3-d backdrop of the steel mill area, and I believe Jeffrey (Running Bear) took a DPM kit and cut it in half and made two background buildings. I also remember a kit for just this purpose... since this is no longer Z, I will search for a commercial link for that kit and post it.

That is the one I was thinking of.
EDIT: I think the center three buildings are the only ones in this kit, and the other two are regular structures.
Chooch Enterprises are advertising store-fronts in their ad in latest Railroad Model Craftsman. Looks like what you are looking for.

http://cityclassics.fwc-host.com/ of structures (no remuneration for me)...their kits are fairly inexpensive, have some beautiful "fronts", and would supply lots of "bashing" material from the remaining walls. Just an idea. Bob C.

A few years ago now as you read this, I made a backdrop by using the Buildings in Auran trainz and taking screen shots of them, and pasting them to paint or Gimp and scaling them with a drawing packkage or even a word processor using the ruler.
The picture is then pasted on to foam core board, the edges of which are painted a grey colour. Rather than make my layout fit the backdrop, I can make my backdrop fit my layout by printing out as close as I can to what I want or envisage.
When you do the screen dumps onto the Auran "board" put some scenic green underneath it and rotate your building and or your view so that you get the full "sunny side" ... which in the case of you in the Northern Hemisphere is the South aspect of Trainz compass. Photoshop or Gimp will allow you to get the perspective right if that is necessary
The pictures are printed on sticker A4 size paper then cut out and applied... and it is fun!

Sorry if I'm not supposed to post a link to another forum...not sure about that so I figured better to ask forgiveness than permission, and show some outstanding modeling.
I've got an M.T. Arms building, given to me by a friend to kitbash, and I don't think I could come up with as creative an idea as this fellow did.
