I realize that I'm waaaay behind the pack, getting started at such a late date, but I will toss my hat into the ring nonetheless. I will be building the Walther's Red Wing Mill in N scale, which will later become part of a GERN facility. Here is an excerpt from my road's website, about the planned GERN Industries Limited - Milling and Refining Division:
Quote:The Akron, Ohio division of GERN Industries, Ltd. is a Flux milling and refining facility. Through their patented and closely-guarded manufacturing process, powdered Flux is triple sifted, double-puffed, soft roasted, and polished. The end result is GERN Flux Pellets, used in a variety of products, including Fluxolium.

Unrefined Flux enters the facility via boxcar or covered hopper and is stored in silos before processing. The finished product leaves the plant in much the same manner, by rail in either bulk form to other GERN locations, or is shipped in boxes directly to the end user.

Good start. Can't wait to see the finished project.
thats a great start to a nice kit. I like the weathering Thumbsup Thumbsup
Not much to report today. I was working on assembling the smoke stack when I decided to go outside for a smoke break. I noticed white road paint all over the side of my car, apparently from when I had went out earlier in the morning. So, needless to say, the majority of my afternoon has gone to getting paint off my car.

FUN! 35

I think my evening will be better served by having a cold one (or several) and watching a movie. Any more stress might result in a broken model.

Cheers
Today I put windows on 2 more sides, leaving just the side with the fire escape doors to finish gluing in. I also encountered a problem with the base. It seems that the sides of my structure have bowed in slightly, making it near impossible to align on the base correctly. After much frustration Curse and beating my head against the wall Wallbang I finally got it on there...much to the detriment of the nice spackle job I did on the corners to hide gaps.

I guess I'll deal with that problem later.

I've been there. Many times I have painted something prior to assembly, only to find that it doesn't fit right an has to be filed, bent, cut, or have gaps filled. It is best to test fit everything first, but many times that is impossible given the sequence of assembly.
Yeah, I was more concerned with getting the walls painted and weathered first. I think it's easier that way than trying to do it assembled. In the end, it's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. You're going to be fighting with the kit along the line somewhere, no matter what you do.
You definately did a good job on the corners! I share your frustrations, as I'm 'fighting with the kit' now, trying to get rid of the gap between the walls and base on my kitbash. Looking forward to your progress!

Unfortunately, this project has come to an abrupt end.

I pulled the car into the garage just a little bit too far yesterday, which started a chain reaction of knocking things over. This building was sitting on a shelf letting some paint dry, and was knocked onto the floor and then crushed nearly flat by falling debris. Two of the walls are bent almost in half, so trying to re-assemble the model is pointless. Looks like it will be fodder for the spare parts box now.

I do have another kit laying around, so I will get started on it today. It's a Branchline Trains wood grain elevator.

Nope
Eek ohhh man im sorry to hear about that. This was shaping up to be a nice structure with the weathering and all. Looking forward to seeing what you do with that Grain Elevator kit Thumbsup
Sorry to hear about the squished building. Even more impetus to persuade my wife to keep the car out of the garage...permanantly. Well, not like it's ever been in there but once, just as a test fit.

After working on a few other projects, I ordered yet another Walther's Red Wing Mill kit for my GERN facility. If you remember above, the kit I was going to use for this contest met its untimely demise. Today I started building the new kit, and while I was basically doing nothing but watching glue dry, I figured I would try to see what I could salvage out of the old kit.

Lots of sanding and Dremeling (is that even a word) later, I was able to save enough of the first kit to make a small 2-story building. My little kitbash is showing some promise right now, but we'll see how it goes. In the grand scheme of things, it might just work out to be a good addition to my facility. So, although this contest has ended, my little accident might not have been that bad after all.

Glad you're able to salvage something. Make the most of what you've got! Thumbsup
