My family and I have recently visited two live steam model events. One (last week) was at the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers in Hamilton at the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology (http://old.hamilton.ca/myhamilton/Citya ... site=STEAM)

I'm uploading a few pics of this event. Being a British train modeler & enthusiast, I was happy to see that more than half of the locos running were British models! My favourite was an LNER Atlantic but there was also a British Railways 0-6-0 Tank engine, as well as a large British diesel, a Great Western (a County, I think) as well as others.

My sons were really getting into this so today, the family and I drove north to the Oak Ridges Moraine and visited the Richmond Hill Live Steamers (http://www.geocities.com/richmondhill_livesteam/)and enjoyed some excellent rides on their property, which is in a very nice hardwood forest. We plan to go again in September when more locos should be running.

Here are a few others ...

There was a very nice Hudson there that can really travel at a good speed!

That's some great stuff. I realy want to build one of them one day Cheers .
Those are nice. There's a live steam club near me, that one of these days I'm going to go visit.
Anybody ever see the live steam "Big Boy" someone built? What scale is that...1/4?

A live-steam Big Boy model would be impressive! I think some of these a 1/4 scale. I forget the exact number though. The Richmond Hill group (north of Toronto) says that they have 4 gauges of track yet I can only really see 2 or possibly 3 at the most. There are the very large locos that are about 24" tall and then the smaller models that are about 8-10" tall.

I'd either like to build one or buy one but don't have enough time or money! One guy told me today that it would take around 3,000 hours to build one of these ! Eek And I think it probably costs several thousand dollars to buy them.

At least it's good to see thriving live steam clubs around, where you can either become a member or visit them during the summer. I know of at least four in the Greater Toronto Area.

When my retirement plan kicks in (i.e. winning the Mega Millions lottery), I am going to buy one. Those are the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Hi Matt: Yes, that sounds like a great plan! It would be fun tinkering with these and then running them at live steam meets. Big Grin Rob
