I thought they had 3 Gensets?

BTW..Atlas is releasing a Genset in the Trainman line.
I think they need more than 3 locomotives. I think the Pacific Harbor Line here in So Cal had about 12 or maybe a few more locomotives. They are using federal and state matching funds to convert the entire fleet to clean diesel and hybrid locomotives. It appears that a lucrative business is developing whereby a rebuilder gets a used locomotive, and rebuilds it as either a gen set or with clean diesel technology and sells it to shortlines like the PHL or M&ET. These new cleaner locomotives are more expensive than used locomotives, but less expensive than brand new equipment from EMD or GE. Air quality rules set by the
EPA are getting harder for areas to meet. They have historically tried to meet the standards by car exhaust emission regulations alone, but the cars are now about as clean as they are going to get without going 100% hybrid which creates problems for someone else's environment. They are now attempting to cleanup exhaust emissions on heavy duty trucks and railroads. The port of Los Angeles has even put in some docks for container ships that allow the ship to plug into shore power and completely shut down the ships diesel generators.

MET has two Railpower RP20BD's built on frames that were the Green Goat demonstrators. They're NOTHING like the NRE 3GS21B that Atlas is releasing, sadly.

Trust me, its easy to get them mixed up, they pretty much all look the same to me as well Icon_lol
The only thing i see when they make these new gensets and green goats and other such nonsense are more frustration for us modelers. I'm not even modeling any, and already i feel the burn. I'm thinking this can be done though. If you look at it, it goes together like most other EMDs. I'm guessing one would start with an Athearn GP40-2 or something, then just totally scratch-build the long hood. I saw an article on scratch-building EMD long hoods, and Cannon parts could handle the majority of the model. I'd say go for it.

I almost think i could do it. If i had money and time to spare, i might have tried it.

More pictures of the unit-

Chris, thanks for the link Misngth

Josh (JB) is starting with 2 PROTO 2000 GP7's to build the 2 RP20BD's for me. Hes scratching the cab and using a lot of Cannon Parts i think. Im not sure what would be required to build this new unit, but if the M&ET gets any of them and i get word of it, you can bet ill have them and be hitting up Josh to build them for me hehe Thumbsup

dude, i'm not kidding when i say thats probably the best starter model to scratchbuild. its only slightly more difficult then making a straight up GP40-2 from scratch. All you need is some strip styrene and a backing sheet. it would be no worse than a model plane!
