Announcing the Big Blue 1st Birthday Bash

Yep, Big Blue will be one year old this December 17th. We want to celebrate and you’re all invited. One little twist though, like at all birthday parties, we’d like you to bring something along. Here’s what we have in mind.

We are opening a “party” thread and would like you to post pictures or attachments of something related to the Big Blue forums or the Big Blue Railroad. Here are some examples of what you can do:
  • Build a “Big blue” structure for your layout
  • Add something to your layout like maybe a “Big Blue” billboard, bridge or even just a sign.
  • Decorate a loco or a car for the Big Blue Railroad.
  • Be poetic, write a poem about Big Blue
  • Get literary, compose a short story related to Big Blue, real or fiction
  • Tell us in your own words what Big Blue means to you
  • Decorate an item like a T-shirt or coffee cup with a Big Blue logo
  • Bake a Big Blue cake or some Big Blue cookies.
  • Stick Big Blue logos all over your car
  • Smurf it up, paint yourself all blue and paste Big Blue logos all over (not recommended)

Truly, the first three on the list have better possibilities, but the ideas are endless and we think you should be creative in your approach to this celebration. If you can, we’re asking you to try something unusual to help celebrate with us; regardless, just do something related to Big Blue or the Big Blue Railroad. Take pictures of what you do and post them in our “party” thread or if you do write something, post it as an attachment.

To help things along, we will publish a couple of different sheets of Big Blue and Big Blue Railroad logos that you can print out or use to make your own decals. You will find low resolution sheets (140K) in a following post, but if you want to download higher resolution (500K) sheets, you will find them here. Sheet 1 and Sheet 2

This is not a contest, there are no winners and there are no right or wrong things to do. If you are energetic and have more time on your hands than you deserve, you can do a couple of things, up to three different things and post them all in the “Party” thread. Your reward will be that you’ll get the satisfaction of knowing that everyone here will appreciate your efforts. Oh yeah, we will give out certificates of appreciation and for everyone that participates.

Oh yeah, remember the Gauge railroad cars that were going from one member to the other a few years back? Well, we’re not saying right now, but keep that in mind if your goal is to decorate a car for the new Big Blue & Gauge Railroad. There just may be a surprise around January that you could participate in. There are a few examples of what you can do in a following post.

The thread will open now and stay open until December 17th
Here are two sheets of logos. We have some old logos from the original Gauge Railroad, some from the early century Big Blue Railway, some transitional ones and finally, some current ones. These are lower resolution images (about 140K each) that will still print decently on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, but if you want higher resolution sheets (500K each) and have high speed access, you can download them by clicking here for Sheet 1 and Sheet 2 Otherwise, try downloading the ones below first.

Note that the older logo groups are marked as to the era that they were used. There should be two each of five different sizes of each type. There is also a color swatch of "Gauge Blue" and the RGB equivalent in the event you need to match the color.

Also, see the following post for examples of how these can be used. These are only suggestions, so use your imagination to get your interpretation of how things should be.

If you need a different size and cannot resize it yourself, or you cannot download what we have here, please PM me and I'll try to get you the individual logos in the size you need.

Here are some examples of what I would do if I were decorating some cars or locos for the Gauge, the Big Blue and the BB&G Railroad, past and present. Use your imagination, there are no restrictions, these are merely suggestions.

Be sure to record the event for posterity. Big Grin
Of course - First Rule: Take pictures! Big Grin
I could stand out in the cold long enough for my fingertips and lips to turn blue.....( I already have blue eyes.) Goldth
Could you guys have someone standing by with a camera? And no B/W, we gotta be sure you both really turn blue, not just any blue, but you really need to color match "Gauge Blue" as close as possible. We've determined that equates to holding your breath for 25 minutes and 30 seconds or standing out in zero degrees for three hours, nine minutes and forty-five seconds. Eek
I was actually planning on the last option and strategically using one of the logos to cover certain areas of my body.

...and that don't give ya nightmares, I don't know what will! Icon_lol
Is this the look you guys are thinking of achieving?
