Here we go, a new challenge based on a suggestion from Nachoman. The challenge: Take a car, old or new, (the junkier, the better) and bash it into something else. It’s that simple. For those who are more energetic, you can do this to more than one car. The only restriction there is that each car that is bashed must be a different type than the others you bashed.

Here's how it's going to work:
  1. Find a car that you want to bash, perhaps an old one that you can’t or won’t run for some reason. If you can’t find an old one, a new one will do just fine; but as Nachoman suggested, use what you have lying around, try not to buy something “Just to join in” – unless you really want to or you don’t have anything that can be categorized as “junk”. We need not explain any further, since a lot of you have already formulated what you’re going to do.
  2. Start a thread in this forum, "Your Screen Name, 2010 Spring Bash challenge." If you are entering more than one item, start separate threads for each project. ie: "Your Screen Name, 2010 Spring Bash challenge 2" (then 3, 4 etc.)
  3. Tell us what you intend to do as part of your challenge. As usual, provide us with lots of pictures of your progress. At a minimum, a before and an after one will suffice.
  4. You may do as many cars as you like, just that you cannot do more than one of any type.
  5. Since we never give anything of value away, this challenge is open to all registered members of the Big Blue Train Forum, including the staff.
  6. Since this challenge is all about the project, you must do a substantial amount of the work, but you or someone else can take the photos.
It's that simple, bash any kind of car into anything else that you choose and let us see the results.

The challenge starts on Feb 1, and will run until April 1.Dependent on the entries, we may break them into categories as to scale or car type. That will be determined around the time the challenge ends.

A poll will open after April 1, so that we can pick a winner.

As usual, there are no real prizes, just bragging rights and a certificate from Big Blue showing that you won one of the top three spots.

Good luck
Don, after I reread the rules, I'm not sure if my project counts as "Take a car, old or new, (the junkier, the better) and bash it into something else." I'm starting with a boxcar and ending with a boxcar. I suppose, technically, a non-runnable junker changed into a runnable car is "something else" than what I started with?

Let's not read too much details into the rules. I'm guessing if you started with a boxcar and did what we in the hobby consider "bashing" (that could be a repaint, rename, new trucks, smaller, bigger, more doors...), let's just say that it qualifies. I'd be hard to take a boxcar and turn it into a tank car. So yes, your project qualifies as far as I'm concerned.
Sounds good to me. Smile
Thanks for clarifying that, as for my project I wanna pull a Ralph... i.e. turn some junk box cabeese into operating B&P cabin cars. He inspired me... LOL
Looks like we have good participation in this contest so far, but there are still quite a few of y'all that need to get in on it! C'mon, let's see what you can do! The more the better.

What I am looking forward to is learning a bunch of new tricks and techniques and ideas from watching all these projects go together. It'll be a great leraning tool for all of us.
Gary, i couldn't agree more. Every time we have one of these challenges, it encourages me to tackle a project I have been lazy about, try something I otherwise wouldn't, and learn techniques from other people. I could care less whether I "win" or not.
I will have to give this some thought. Oh yeah maybe a stripper car
Kevin - That's the best part of these challenges for me too!!!! Smile Smile

Just wanted to bump this back up.

2285_ 2285_ Come on everybody, there is still time to get a project started. 2285_ 2285_
lol, shoot, i didn't notice this contest began, and its already a month in! I'm sure i've got something lying around somewhere....

I'm thinking Catenary car.... i'll have to see what i've got.
Yeah, ditto...just noticed this one is off and running a month later. I doubt I'll get anything going since I'm planning the layout...but we'll see. Goldth

Okay, okay, you got me. After looking through all the entries, I figured the projects I have laying around more than qualify. I had thought about some passenger cars, but really they're not upgrades or bashes, just kit builds, so that'll wait for another day.

No, I'll start up a thread and get the workbench cleaned off. Icon_lol

Eek Darn it! 35 35 35 I've only just discovered this challenge, and tomorrow is April 1st, not a joke... :-( I am waaaaayyyy too late to start anything.

Icon_idea Will there be a 2010 summer bash challenge?
