For those that have been beating my door down demanding pictures, here's a couple of pics of the finished loco....(the repowering/chains part)...It will eventually receive lettering, and a light dusting of weathering...
Looks good. Cheers I have often thought about turning one of those into a Camel back. Did you remove the boiler? If so, was the removal and installation difficult?
I can offer a word of caution when it comes to removing the boiler from the Proto 0-8-0. While it is not impossible it is not an easy thing to do. There is series of steps that must be followed in order to remove the boiler. One also has to be very careful not to damage some of the fine detail parts. I have removed the boiler both my 0-8-0 and 0-6-0. The 0-6-0 is easier than the 0-8-0. I had to remove mine as both my locomotives had sat on a hobby shop shelf for a good 6 years never run. The factory oil and grease had long dried out and both locomotives need lubrication real bad when I got them and tried to run them.
Some where I have the instructions supplied by Walthers on how to remove the boilers but even they were not very accurate. They had some steps in the wrong order and few steps were missing. Needless to say when I disassembled my 0-8-0 it was a very nerve racking experience. Wallbang

Hmmm. I removed the boiler on mine, but I don't recall it being especially difficult - mind you, there's a lot of stuff I don't recall. Misngth 357
I didn't worry too much about the details, though, as most had been removed or were about to be - I thought that most of the piping, which looks so nice, was undersize, and I eventually replaced pretty-well all of it.

No...I, thankfully, didn't have to remove the boiler, as all of the work was done on the tender... Goldth

Considering the topic of discussion, wouldn't that have been a tender tantrum? And, if he had of thrown it at the wall, I can pretty much guarantee it would have been a tender topic.
