My son and I visited Southern California in February 1998 to watch and photograph trains. I have scanned images and started to publish them on my Fotopic site.
First set is in the Mojave and Tehachapi areas, Saturday 14th February 1998.

Two of the highlights of our first day was seeing some of these:
and some full lashups of Warbonnets!
Great pics..!! Let's see some more...
Plenty more still to come.
Next set up, mostly at Caliente after a derailment closed the line for several hours.

I loved the paint scheme on these EMD lease units!
This UP C36-7 was a good catch. I love the beefy looks of these units
We never tired of seeing tunnel motors!
Hello Alan---welcome back---these are great shots---hope there's more to come
Wow, some great photos. Hard to believe that was over 10 years ago already. No offennse to BNSF fans, but I miss the old BN green and SF warbonnets.

It was a good time for my son and I to visit, there were new units and paint schemes, but still plenty of good old Santa Fe and BN units in front line service. More goodies to follow. 8-)
Hello Alan---I've really been enjoying your photos from your trip to California in 1998---any chance you made it to the Napa Valley ?--- I hope you don't mind if I add a photo from this area that I took in 2001---unfortunately,my wife is not a train nut like I am so my railfanning was somewhat limited so I really appreciate your contributions---Thanks again
Didn't get to Napa Valley, but would have loved to see those Alcos! Thanks for the pic.
More pictures will be added tonight or tomorrow. 8-)
