My CSX big blue 50' Gunderson boxcars look very similar to the YN3 scheme introduced in 2002. Is that true or did CSX use the kind of similar scheme earlier on cars?

I found two additional information in the web.
a. Walthers had them 2001 in the catalog
b. Gunderson build that cars in the mid 1990

If that is true the scheme looks similar to YN3 but is no indication for a post 2002 build date.

Background of my question is, if the presence of such cars on my layout defines the time period later than 2002.
No, those Big Blue box cars have been around since before the YN3. I wanna say they started showing up in the late 90's.

Thank you!" Case closed Thumbsup
Doing some research it appears I was wrong, 2000-2001 would be when they started showing up. Not sure when the YN3 scheme was introduced.
Hey, how about some photos with descriptions??

Yeah ... :? ... I'm with you on this one, Gary! Cheers

I'm trying very hard to keep current, but when it's all said and done, to me Fallen Flags means RDG/CNJ/LV/LNE/etc. = Conrail ... If it happened after the late sixties/early seventies ... well ...

:needpics:
Aw! You slipped one in on me, Dave, while I was two finger typing!

That http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPic...id=1454554 is an example I am asking for. Problem is the date of the pictures. I find lots of 2001 and younger. But that is no proof they did not exist earlier. With digital cameras becoming a commodity and cell phones got a camera function too the web is flooded with young photos.

ps. BNSF has a very similar car. Road numbers are 726 xxx. But the pictures are also too young to proof anything. The Gunderson homepage has a PDF doc with the specs but no history data.
Thanks for the photos, guys. Now I know what y'all are talking about.
That is the first time I've seen a pic of that scheme. I'm going to have to run a "BIG BLUE" on my switching layout when I get started on it. Who knew there was a prototype named after our favorite model railroad message board even if it was built before this board came on line!

Russ, that only shows how far we’ve come with our forum. Goldth
Here are the specs: http://www.gbrx.com/PDFtecbulletins/BoxCars50Paper.pdf as PDF file of the 50' big blue from the Greenbrier Companies as owner of Gunderson. This http://www.gbrx.com/page.php?view=GUNDERSON is the home page.
Walthers has the boxcar in HO scale, but unfortunately i think their is only one road number avaliable. How-ever their will be a new release of this boxcar in January of 2011.I wrote Walthers myself(Facebook)and sudjested that they produce more than one road number.Hopefully they listen?cause i need some of these also.
