Thanks for posting the photos! While in Effingham and exploring the area, I'd seen this facility, but didn't take any photos of it. Another potential industry for my ISL and the fleet of Airslide's I have.

By all means post any other photos of industries on the EFRR that you have. The EFRR is an interesting railroad to say the least.
Here's 23 aerial pix from my Picasa site showing the joint Los Angeles Jct. Ry & ATSF Fruitland team tracks in Vernon CA. It's about 1/2 block wide & one block long so very model-able. The 2 RRs arn't connected there but that may change since BNSF is now becoming more involved w/ switching the J. Actually the J crews may be doing the switching out of Malabar Yard soon.

Finally was able to get a good photo of the track side of the TQW Crossdock on the Effingham Railroad on Aug 17th. Photo has been posted on another thread, but needs to be added here. Since it's much too late to update the first posting showing the other sides of this structure here's the track side view showing the position of the rail door, the weather seal and, the folding ramp placed in the car door:Certainly a unique, small industry for a layout and one that I intend to make a model of, even if it won't fit in to my current layout plan.

I'm thinking of putting one of these of my layout and I am wondering how the hoppers are unloaded, Can only the car in the structure be unloaded or can they all be unloaded ?

crossroads can probably tell you a bit more about this facility, but when I passed by there last Wednesday morning, they had 4 pressure differential hoppers spotted there and they were unloading the one on the south end (opposite end of the photo) directly into a truck. This Google street view shows pretty much what I saw: http://maps.google.com/?ll=39.112897,-88...41,,0,5.71 note the truck at the south end of the track. As the photo shows, they also receive some Airslide covered hoppers in addition to the PD covered hoppers. Don't think anyone currently makes models of the PD covered hoppers in HO, but I have been able to get about 6 Airslides (Wathers) to add to my fleet.

This is also a facility I will include, in addition to the crossdock building, if I end up going with a trans-load track on the layout. Difference would be that mine would be off-loading feed or fertilizer inside the shed and have a car-puller to move the cars as they are unloaded.
This is what I came up with to unload Soda Ash hoppers on my team track on my lay out:

Now that is interesting! You can find all sorts of commodities unloaded on a team track with various types of conveyors and it certainly makes an interesting model. Love that truck too.

When will someone make a bulkamatic type trailer ?? What to transload plastics hoppers!
Wow Gm&O airslide in 2004!

And a question - how does the flour arrive (or leave?) this facility?

I discovered the Tyburn Railroad, their only industry is a trans-load facility, it would make a nice layout Misngth

They have some good pics of their trans-load facility on their website:

One of the Bachmann 45 tonners would be perfect for modeling an operation like the TYBR. Nice photos on the Middletown & New Jersey page showing a center beam flat being unloaded and an ARMN reefer being unloaded at a concrete dock. Other little hidden nuggets of interesting facilities on that web site too.

Amen! I know there is a kit available from 1-87 Vehicle Club http://www.1-87vehicles.org/New%20Products/10_jan.php But a R-T-R model of these would sell like hotcakes.

I knew there was a reason I love this site! What a fantastic concept for a layout, I only have very limited space for layout and a transload factilty is perfect, 1 industry all sorts cars can be switched on.

Does any one have any ideas what is being moved in the small containers that covered with a tarp? http://www.mnjrr.com/images/IMG_1355[2].jpg

*For some reason I can not get the link to work?

You forgot the / in last URL code, it should be Thumbsup
Those containers are contaminated dirt, If you look around on you tube there are some vids of NS bringing those spine cars to the interchange. the Tyburn RR is basically a transload yard & they interchange with CSX & NS no real tracked , alot of tank cars & covered hoppers . There loco power is a 44 ton & 45 ton .
