WHOA!!!

Treasure Trove!!!

Except ... now it's decisions and I have such a problem with them ... cabin car # 27 in Oxide Red or #28 in Green? How will I ever decide!?

Geez, thanks, Wayne ... what I guy! I guess I'll be indebted now! I'll really have to do a "bang-up" job on these pieces of diminutuve rolling stock, with all of this great reference material! And I'm so intrigued by the ti-ninesy scale car (twinkle in the eye!) I think I just may still have enough Central Valley HOn3 Arch Bar trucks to do the job!

These should be fun ... anyone old enough to remember Quality Craft knows that one is confronted with a bundle of sticks and a couple pieces of paper when opening the box. But they were offered back in the mid-seventies when I was managing a hobby shop and I was stocking up for the future at "Dealer's Net" ... always making the best of the situation ... there was no design work in a poor economy but people were staying at home and doing hobbies and crafts -- a good time to grow a retail hobby/craft business in a new mall! And how could I pass up my cost?

Of course, now when I unpack all my stuff, "some people" liken it to the "People Who Hoard" TV show, but when I rented this place, I never noticed the only horizontal surfaces were the kitchen counters and the bathroom vanity ... and my only furniture since I got divorced are two seating pieces, a console table, a cocktail table, two lamps and two RTA bookshelves (well, and the desk and lateral file I designed.) But I have a mountain of model railroad stuff and a ton of books!

Well, I'll for sure let the Canon One-Shot follow along as I attack these little gems!

Thanks, Good Doctor!

Edit: If I get too verbose, just say “Shut up, BiL!” My family tells me that all of the time!
Its a little quiet here, and the trip is in just over a week. Whats the overall final plan? its a 3 and a half hour ride for me, (still longer than it was to steam town!) and i want to be super prepared.
If you go to the link on Page 1 of this thread, you'll see the activities available, which should give you an idea of what's of most interest to you.
Before I realised that I wouldn't be able to attend, my plan was to arrive on the 7th, in order to take in the shop tour. For me, it's about a 6 1/2 hour drive, and I would have probably stayed until Monday. However, even at that time, most accommodations were already booked-up.

I'm guessing that it will be pretty busy, and if my previous visits are any indication, there's not a lot of supervision - there may be more for this event, but generally you can wander around wherever you want. Be safe! There are lots of opportunities to get hurt and a lot of the folks visiting haven't a clue about safety around railroads. 35 35

A few tips: wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty - steam locomotives and their surroundings are not especially clean. Safety boots are a good choice if you have them - the roundhouse floor is..., well, here are a couple of pictures I shot on my last visit. The roundhouse was closed to visitors, but a walk around the back found several windows where the security screen had been partially pulled aside. I stuck my camera into the gap and shot a few views.
This shot is from the turntable side, through the door:

Watch out for the trains - there may be more than one moving at any time. Follow the railroaders' first safety rule:
"Expect a train at any time, on any track, and in any direction."

When crossing tracks, step over the rail, not on it - it's very easy to slip, especially on recently-used rail.

When crossing tracks on which equipment is parked, don't cross too close to that equipment - leave at least 10' between yourself and something that could potentially move at any time (see rule #1).

Don't climb on the equipment unless invited to do so.

Try to be respectful of others, even though many of them will be in the way when you're trying to get a picture. Wink Goldth

You may be able to escape the crowds by wandering to where there's less activity but still interesting stuff to see, although that will depend on how well regulated this event is.
If you follow Route 522 towards Mount Union, there's a red/brown barn on your left, about two miles out of Orbisonia. There's a large gravel lot there, and a closed sideroad running to the left. I parked there, then hiked about a quarter mile down the road to this EBT bridge:

Beyond this, as you can see, the road jogs to the left, then turns right to cross a truss bridge - I didn't have time to investigate it, though, as the train was nearing.
I got this shot of the approaching train:

...and this DOH! view of part of the loco. Wallbang Icon_lol

I hope all of our attending Members enjoy this treasure as much as do I.

Super neat images, Doctor!

They will be helpful as I begin to plan the Weissport engine terminal. (I'm getting antsy! I have just recently added to the Camelback roster ... I'm toying with a "roster for record" photo (my insurance rep has requested photos!) Should be impressive ... I've never had them all out at the same time!!

So ... what, exactly is the surface of that floor ... lighting and apparent moisture covering have me in an indentification quandry! I was thinking concrete, but it then it looks like cinders, or is it wet gravel or ... ?
I'd guess it to be cinders and maybe some gravel, lightly sauteed in a grease/oil mixture and garnished with a drizzle of leaked water. Icon_lol Icon_lol

Trip went well. Only 3 of us got to make it. Nope But with a small group we got to see a lot in one day. We started the day at the EBT, moved on to the Railroaders museum in Altoona, then finished the day at Horseshoe curve.
Some shots from the Railroaders museum
And a few from the curve...It was a slow day there.

Boy! Do I miss those Pennsylvania hills!!

I shall now spend the rest of the day being

Wish that I could have been there - looks like you had a perfect day, weather-wise, too.
