I was looking for a pic of my old viaduct but I found it very difficult to find one that had the entire span in it. Anyway, I found this one and although the scene was not finished, it shows the entire viaduct:


I had two other bridges on the layout but I figured that this was the one you were talking about  

That's the one! Thank you! Though not as mountainous as yours and vaguely similar, I live 6 miles down from the Tulip viaduct ( <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.bigbluetrains.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7889">viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7889</a><!-- l --> ) now and think of yours sometimes when I see it.

I love all viaducts! They always look so cool  

I have begun making "scrap" for the yard and I used some of the leftovers from my old viaduct. None of this stuff is glued down. I am just experimenting with placement and colors. I will keep making junk and when I have a good amount, I will decide on final placement. It won't look so neat and tidy when I am done:



Even in this state, it is already showing potential.

Back to work  

I didn't want anyone thinking I've given up on this scene so I figured I post a couple of pics:

I bought some "junk" castings from Monroe Models and painted them up (sofa, refrigerator, stove, hot water heater):



I decided to put an awning on the right-side of the shed and have some bins out there (still need to fill them up):


Beat up the track bumper a little:



This is a very slow going project, but I have promised myself to do at least "something" every day.....should only take me a couple of years    

Looks like trash...in a good way!

I really enjoy adding all the little details and I seem to go overboard when it comes to adding these small details but junk yards seem to be heavy in lots of crap sitting around. Keep us updated on progress no matter how big or small.

While cobweb cleaning I decided to do a little signage change that I never got around to. I updated the "Castillo Cold Storage" sign. A small but needed improvement:

Steve, that junkyard scene is amazing. The crane is particularly well done with excellent weathering. The sign over the shanty made me laugh! It's always refreshing t osee your work!

I wouldn't expect less from a scrap yard!!

How is your progress so far? I remember both ends of the layout were almost complete and it seems the middle section is taking shape steadily.

Besides the scrap yard area, I have a spot to the right that needs to be finished (ground cover/fence/trees/etc.)
Also, to the far left is a small structure that I previously decided not to do. I recently found a small proto-structure that would fit right in there....so I will be doing that. I should also add all the finishing touches to the trestle at the river.

All in all still bit left to do.......that does not include weathering my fleet either

Great progress as always!!

It always surprises me how much junk you really have to make to make a junk yard. IT seems to just eat up all sorts of bits and pieces, even though it is just large piles of, JUNK.

Looks like you are having fun getting all the details added!
