I got this older Tyco (mantua also) engine, have no clue what it was suppose to be?

Interesting little thing there! I've never seen anything like it before.
This is a model of a Plymouth (Fate-Root-Heath) 60 Ton Model CR-4. Here are a couple of links to photos of a prototype.

60 tons on two axles is about the maximum for US rails.
I Have one of those that I Have bin meaning to redo. I original detailed and painted it when I was around 12.[attachment=5681]

Tom ... Do you have access to the March '62 Issue of Model Railroader?

there are motor trucks out there with can motors that are DCC ready that you can repower this with, though they cost, and i know you like to keep things frugal.
