The Big Blue End of Year Clearance Challenge

Let’s start a new challenge, one we can all relate to. We all have those projects that either we’ve started and set aside for something more important, or we have those that we truly intend to start but haven't yet for one reason or another. Most often, we have the material, kit, engine or car. All we need now is one more part or a bit more time and we’re off to the races. Well, now is your chance to get the incentive to go finish up that project. We will call this our, “end of year clearance challenge.”

The Rules:

  1. You can enter any project on your railroad that you’ve either started and is less than half finished, or one that you’re ready to start but haven’t yet. This can be anything from building a structure from a kit, a kitbash, anything scratchbuilt, weathering or rebuilding a car or engine, finishing up your trackwork or even completing some other aspect of your layout like scenery or wiring. Just about anything goes, but you have to tell us at what level the project is at when you start and what the intent of the completed project is
  2. Start a thread in this forum, "Your Screen Name, 2010 EOY challenge," and describe your project in the first post. A start picture would be helpful.
  3. You can open your thread at any time starting now and until the closing date of the challenge, but please don't post progress pics or reports until the November 1 start date.
  4. Tell us what you intend to do as part of your challenge and let us know what scale you are working in. As usual, provide us with lots of pictures of your progress.
  5. Since this is a challenge of procrastinators, we are limiting entries to one per member. More than that would cause too much strain and confusion on a normal person anyway. Wallbang
    • 5a. By special request, and under the thought of duress, we will allow more than one entry under the following conditions: If a person finishes one project and wishes to enter another they may do so at their own risk to mental, emotional and physical stability. No additional prizes will be awarded; nor will these additional entries be rated, but the modeler will gain the satisfaction of having completed at least one or more long overdue projects. Note that doing this will surly get these people drummed out of the procrastinator's club, big time... so use all caution and do this knowing all the risks. Goldth Goldth

  6. Because we never give away anything of value away, this challenge is open to all registered members of the Big Blue Train Forum, including the staff.
  7. This challenge is all about your project, you can have help, but you must do a substantial amount of the work yourself. You or someone else can take the photos.
The challenge starts on November 1, and will run until New Years Day. A poll will open after that date, so that we can pick a winner.

As usual, there are no real prizes, just bragging rights and a certificate from Big Blue showing that you won one of the top three spots.

Please post any questions or comments regarding this challenge here in this thread and we will attempt to resolve any issues here before the challenge starts.
Oooo....goody...I have just the thing! I need a good kick in the pants to get moving on a "start-all-over" project I began a few weeks ago.

But I'll wait until Nov. 1st before I put up anything. I'll continue to work on it until then. Misngth

You obviously did not read the rules...! Wink Big Grin Icon_lol

I've got a project I havent worked on in probably 5 years. I have most, or all, of the raw materials, and I have time. I really have no excuses.
Well, I was going to run this about a year ago, but one thing led to another and... I think I has a sever case of procrastination... Eek Nope Eek Nope

As further proof, I have about six plastic boxes lined up over my workbench, each with a project that I started over the years, the oldest is about four or five years old, but I'm still poised to get to them any day now.... Popcornbeer

Who me, a procrastinator?????

To fellow procrastinators, I say: Cheers Welcome Cheers Welcome Cheers
and good luck. Thumbsup Thumbsup

Oh no I read the rules. Every day I look at it and say I'm going to get A B & C accomplished and instead end up goofing around for an hour and then hopping on line to surf the gauge or maybe watch a movie.

So when I say "work on it", its really just a figure of speech. 790_smiley_picking_a_fight
Question: IF I finish the one project that I enter, can I then enter another? 357 (Don't laugh, I'm serious! Goldth )

Galen...Right off the bat I can see you don't qualify....It's about procrastinating.....That other project MUST sit on your bench, drawer or closet for at least another year before you get around to it.... Goldth

Gus is right, no procrastinator in his right mind would even suggest something like this... 357 357 357

Besides, read rule #5, that should take care of any doubts. Icon_lol
Don:
You left out the preliminary challenge which is deciding which of the projects I haven't done anything to in over 20 years will be the one to enter. That should take me to Christmas.
Is there a prize for the person making the least progress?

Probably the worse scenario that I can think of in that regard would be for someone to actually take apart a project that they already finished. Would that be negative procrastination or just a giant step beyond not even starting to begin with? :?: :?:
HMmmmm!

I should probably choose one of the "other unfinished projects," not my 2010 Summer Structure Challenge entry, right?

Not a problem ...

... the choices are seemingly endless ...
... no worries ... I'll pick a juicy one!
Gee..Maybe I'll join this one. I don't know...I could wait until the next one....or even challenge after that.

By the way....What does procrastination mean?
OK, I'll start thinking about it on November 1. Then, it will be a "short while" until I decide which, and a bit after that before I decide to start.......the completion date can be extended, right? 357 Big Grin 357
" By the way....What does procrastination mean? "

Procrastination means; never having to worry about completing tomorrow, a project that was scheduled for completion last month!

I'll look it up for you ...sometime later next week, when ever I get a chance to get a round to it.
