Oooooooooooohhhhh-Kay... I meant to create the Canton Box Co. out of two smaller structures (Canton Paper and Westlund Meats) which are pictured languishing carelessly placed and ignored on my layout in the center of the photo. This was supposed to be my entry for the previous challenge! I think this qualifies as procrastination! Any way, I'll join the two structures to create one larger industry and do my best to add details to make it a decent building.

Those of you who know my layout may have noticed the brick backdrop building with the fire escapes on the upper level. I was using this temporarily behind my ball park scene but moved it. I've placed some fencing material in front of it but need to actually paint and weather it before securing it. I'm pondering a backdrop bridge to the left of that building to deal with an oddly scenicked area. I kind of like the rough draft (it will be level in its finished stage, of course).

So, the challenge is to make Canton Box Co but I'll also try to take care of those other things when I'm ready to photograph the end results.

You mean like those girders hanging in mid-air in front of the backdrop? 35 Looking forward to the results!

Galen
Yeah, especially like those girders which I stuck up there as a "for instance" for a bridge. Naturally they fell out of place when I took the photo. :?
Murphy was in the room when you took the photo... Icon_lol

I notice he likes to derail rolling stock & engines for photos too. Wallbang

The girders & implied bridge looks like a good idea, btw.

Its getting down to the wire for the End of the Year Challenge!!! Motivation strikes me! Smile I finally connected the two buildings to create one larger structure. I'm imagining that the section on the left is an addition built later after the business had some success, so it looks newer and has different windows. I added signs, a dust collector, and other roof details. The Canton family are firm believers in advertising. Smile I was originally going to call the business "Canton Carton" but thought it was too cutesy. Canton Box Company is not served by rail but is right near the tracks. I still plan to create a faux trestle in the background. I'll add some ground cover around the base of Canton Box and see what other details might bring the scene alive...pallets, employees, weather the fence by the smoke stack and add signs...etc.

Nice looking building, Ralph. I agree with you on "Canton Box" rather than "Canton Carton." And they do like to get their name out!
That is a very nice made DPM based building. The signs are the high light!
A few photos of the final project, just in time! Smile

There are some amazing entries by other modelers for this contest and I'm humbly in awe of their work! I took advantage of the contest as a way of motivating myself to finally get this area worked on!

Ralph
That's a much improved structure. Nice job on the smaller details, like the man on the stairs.
Do like those details Ralph. Glad you made it to the finish line. Thumbsup
And the pallets and drums. You can never have enough pallets and drums. Great job Ralph. Thumbsup
