I came accross this CD on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Model-Railroad-Soft ... 1c17b51c26 Basically it is a program that coverts 1:1 scale dimensions to N,HO,S,O,G scales.I bought this CD and it will be a must have tool to covert actual life size building dimensions to HO scale, that way i know it will be exactly "to scale" Big Grin
Looks to be a convenient tool, especially for those in multiple scales. With me being only in HO scale, I've just been doing the conversions with a calculator.

Full size dimension divided by 87 equals model dimension.

Model dimension times 87 equals full size dimension.

Edit: Everyone understands that there may be some unit conversion, right? For example, an HO scale structure that measures 4 inches long on a 1:1 ruler converted to the prototype size would be 4 inches x 87 = 348 inches, to convert to feet, divide by 12, equals 29 feet.
Not to bust anyones bubble but MRH online magazine has/had a download scale converter.

MRH is a free online publication, it makes a great addition to this forum and the print magazines of the hobby.
