I thought I would try doing a photo tour of my layout. I decided a good way to do this would be to follow a local freight out of Clifton forge yard. I am going to start with getting the locomotive from the round house.

We will be using a Mantua Mikado that I detailed a little trying to get the C&O look. The hostlers are about to back #1234 out of the round house.

They back it across the turn table.

and stop for coal, water and sand.

Now it is coupled up and the crew is preparing for the days work.

We are on the way.

As we pass the Gern facility we meet another train

It is locomotive 1633 pulling empty coal cars. He is probably going to Clifton Forge, where we just left.

Finally the end of that train. we are close to our first stop.

We will have to drop the caboose on a siding here that goes to American concrete.

We then pick up 2 box cars and a tank car.

Now you can see why we had to drop the caboose off of the main line

All finished here now to the next stop.

As we approach Barboursville Station we meet another train. It is a Mikado #1189 pulling a mixed freight

This is where we switch ends of the train and return to Clifton Forge yard. there will be several stops on the return trip. This will be posted later.

Thank you for the layout tour. What kind of loading facility is that on the picture. It looks interesting. Never saw it before. Are that three arms to load tank cars?
Yes the 3 arms are for loading tank cars. they are pipes that pull down. There are counter weights for raising them. In the 1:1 world the pipes would stay up until pulled down and the counter weight would raise it when released. Here is a construction photo to see it a little better.

This is a great idea! A trip over the layout starting with the power leaving the engine facilities...I wanna do something similar when I'm feeling ready for it. Nice one Gary! Thumbsup

Between you and Steamtrains, I think I want to take a crack at an old Mantua Mike. Great idea for a layout tour. I will have to do similar when I get more scenery in place.
Very nice!!! I like all the detailing. Plus...it just looks interesting...something to see at every spot that gets your attention. Thumbsup
