Are they kidding me?? They allowed bail?! And at a low $100k
Unbelievable!
Too much. What an arse. Nope

[nitpick mode]
On the other hand, I wish from a legal stand point people would stop using phrasing like this...

Quote:The criminal complaint says Hassan smelled of alcohol...

Alcohol and Liquor don't smell the same and if memory serves according to some case law (in Canada), if the arresting police officer made this statement in his or her report the case could get thrown out on a technicality. If it is just the reporter, then the reporter should also know better. In most cases its better to say he smelled of an "alcoholic beverage" Just saying... :?

As a retired defender of the Constitution of the United States, I have no choice but to agree with bail, at any level. it is a right, guaranteed.

What I'd like to see done, is far to hideous and horrible to speak of..... anywhere.
I will leave it at, once proved guilty by hard evidence, legally obtained, may the judge proscribe the severest punishment allowed by law, and may the punishment be carried out swiftly, and thoroughly.

Defending "Freedom", is not now, and has never been, an easy task, but its reward, Freedom, is still worth the aggravation.
I see plenty of drunken idiots doing stupid stuff that they will regret, but talking about bombs - whether drunk or sober, is gonna lead to trouble.
Hear, hear, Pete!
I heard a radio report about this story that really burned me. It was full of details about people trudging through the snow and cold and how elderly passengers either tried to make it or had to wait for vehicles later to cross a frozen pond. Perhaps it really affects me because I rode the Empire Builder a couple of years ago and remember the trip fondly. To have it spoiled in this absurd fashion would have outraged me. And then when I hear some 50 freights were delayed...that's an amazing amount of commerce interrupted by one guy! I hope they throw the book at him!

Bail can be denied depending on offense, and threatening life with bombs would fall under that. The right of bail isn't gauranteed under federal law, maybe some state laws though

I read that some people were hurt when they fell. Had it not been for that idiot's (alleged) remarks, they would not have had to leave the train and would not have been hurt. Hope that idiot can be held accountable for that! Curse

The problem today is too many criminals get off because of some stupid technicality. Too many judges are quick to let them go just to punish a prosecuting attorney, which is not at all what the Constitution and laws of other countries had in mind when they were written.
If you let this fellow off then shame on them. He is guilty of enough crimes to spend life in prison, and that is where he should be. Being drunk is no excuse for a crime. Last time I had a drink it was my choice, so if I did something while under the influence, I at least, was sober when I made the decision to become stupid. Had someone died he would have been guilty of second degree murder, as it is, if someone was hurt, is he not guilty of assault as well as a terrorist act, not an attempted terrorist act because he did in fact cause terror on that train.
Deport the SOB.

It's silly crap like this that I think about when I start to miss my days as an Amtrak Conductor and it quickly goes away. One thing about that job, you'll quickly find that it takes all kinds to make the world go around. Nope
Hello Everyone---here in Canada, the judges would probably find him not guilty by reason of insanity 35 35 35 Personally, I think he should be thrown in jail where he belongs
