Here's another interesting (and somewhat different) industry, perfect for an ISL.

Blommer Chocolate in Union City, CA. Blommer's main facility is located in Chicago, IL, and they also have a plants in East Greenville, PA and Campbellford, ON, but this facility in CA is more interesting as it handles three different types of cars and judging from the cars waiting to be spotted, would require switching daily.

They receive covered hoppers of cocoa beans, airslide covered hoppers and tank cars. The Google view shows two covered hoppers and a tank car on spot, while the Bing view shows three covered hoppers and two airslides on spot. I like the storage silos at the end of the structure add a lot of interest to an otherwise shoebox type structure.

I also like the way that Pacific St runs across both the industrial lead and the spur into Blommer. Nothing like tying up the impatient motorists while you switch the plant! Plenty of switching involved spotting the cars at this one industry.

Ed,There is a lot of details in those photos..Did you notice the holding track across from Bloomers? There are serveral covered hoppers being stored there.I suspect those are inbound loads.

Hmm, was going to say that the East Greenville plant doesn't appear to be rail served, a shame since it is right on the East Penn Rwy/former Reading Perkiomen Branch, but then I looked around a little more and saw tank cars on a siding barely distinguishable because it runs through pavement.

Looking at that dpresses me to no end. The old Carpenter Industrial Lead (Union City) used to be FULL of business, now Bloomers is about the only thing left. Back in the WP days, they used to have a switcher (Fremont Road Switcher) that was dedicated to that and the surrounding areas.

If you modeled this plant or used it as inspiration, you could always have a little fan blowing across a small hot plate with chocolate on one half and nuts on the other half [if thats your fancy] to provide a heady aroma while you switch the plant.
Why not? We are fitting locos with sound now days, so how about pleasant aromas at interesting industries.
