I think I am going to cut at the far end of the tunnel and near end of the bridge. to cut between would be extremely difficult.
I had the same thing happen on my first layout, except, as I seem to see in your photo, and somewhat incongruous with your description, the free track on the bridge was what deflected. My conclusion was that the framing on either end had encroached on the non-moving, non-afftected styrened or metal bridge. This incursion, caused by increased humidity in the wood, which caused the framing to change dimensions, forced the track to buck between the incursions. At least, looking at the photo, I can see deflection near the far end of the bridge, but on the bridge. Same as in my case five years ago. My recourse was to remove the flex length on the bridge, clip about 1/16" of its rail length, and to then re-install it. Worked fine from that point on.

Crandell
Well Crandell it started in the tunnel the train hit the sidewall of the tunnel and derailed. Then a day or so later it broke loose from the bridge. when it first broke loose from the bridge it was still messed up in the tunnel. Then at the request of Dave I went to take the pictures and the tunnel is almost straight. If you look close you will see it still goes into the tunnel but not as extreme. I wish I had taken a picture when it first started. The track on the left was almost touching the sidewall. By the way if the sidewall looks like the bottom of an Athearn BB it is your imagination. Didn't need one on the right side as this is the only way to see it.
