Okay, yet another project I'm thinking of doing, but for I get to that stage, a good drawing would be helpful.
I've found several pictures so that's sorted.

Does anyone have a good drawing of a Southern Pacific C-50-9 caboose? I don't mind what scale it is in, I can convert that, but I'd like a nice drawing showing the side, the head end, and if possible, a roof shot, but anything reasonable is welcome.
Even if it just shows general dimensions, I'd be grateful, I can get the details of pictures etc.

I understand Mainline modeler once posted an article/drawings etc.
From 'Espee.railfan.net' I found: "Mainline Modeler has a set of plans for the C-50-9 in the issue of September 1986 on page 22"
A scan of that article would be great!

You didn't mention scale, but if it is HO, the Athearn, Blue Box, Bay window caboose, could be very easily converted. ( if you can still find one )

Sumpter, yes it's HO scale, I've not found a BB one recently, but I think it would be fun to try my hand at mostly scratchbuilding one.

Well the project is of to a careful start. :-)

I've ordered the correct trucks (I'm not confident enough yet to scratchbuild those :-) ). I couldn't find any of the 'better' manufacturers that fit the bill, I needed 50 ton Bettendorf Caboose trucks, which do NOT have coiled springs. Almost all trucks on the market have these. However, I found a set of correct trucks from Atlas, so I decided to order those. They'll do nicely until I find better/am able to make them/can be bothered... :-)

Both TrueLine Trains and Tahoe Model Works offer caboose trucks with leaf springs.

Here's the Trueline version:

You can also use Kadee sprung trucks, and add phosphor bronze leaf springs from Precision Scale:


I install the PSC springs, then re-install the Kadee coil springs, as they help to keep the leaf spring in place - if you look closely, one of the coil springs is visible on the right-hand truck.

Thanks Wayne for the tips. That is a great idea to consider for the future. What I also forgot to mention is that they are roller bearing trucks.
So I need to find 50 ton roller bearing trucks, and then add PSC leaf springs. Anyway, as said, I've got the correct type from Atlas underway, and I'll get some others for a next one. :-)
