I have a section of layout with about 6 inches from backdrop to the track. Im thinking of making it be the back side of a row of city shops. Kinda not sure how to though. Its less than 24" from the aisle, so its in close sight and would probably need some good detail, so I dont want to do a picture background, but dont want to buy any building kits just to use the back sides either... any suggestions or pictures of things anyone else has done?

DPM and Walthers both have modular kits. You can get just the ones you want to use for the "back" or trackside and not have to worry about using only part of the kit.

There's a guy on e-Bay that sells background flats for less then $10.00 each and they look good...

Here's a example of one of his industrial backgrounds..He has city backgrounds as well.

Im thinking Ill go with the modular kit idea. I looked at the flats on ebay, but I think with them being in such close eyesight, they might not show enough detail, I really like the king mill buildings, but couldnt find the ones that I was looking for there, so I suppose since Im so picky Ill try to make my own lol.

The King Mill Enterprises backgrounds is dated structures but,still excellent for older urban structures on modern layouts.

The Kings Mill buildings look pretty good. Although they are kind of dated and not modern if you are looking for that. I'd like to see actual layouts with the Kings Mill buildings and other options.
