We're getting a rip-snortin' thunderstorm here. It started around 9pm and is still going at 11pm. According to the Weather Network it's supposed to last until 4 or 5am! Eek There are thunderstorm and tornado warnings out.

Little unsettling in light of recent Tornado activity in Ontario.
Yup, we had hail just the other day from intense thunderstorms, and apparently that hurricane brewing in the Caribbean is coming up the east coast, supposed to be major trouble for the whole area.

Yes, between the earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes, I wish things would settle down! Hope the hurricane weakens and/or moves out into the ocean.
New York's weather systems usually originate in Canada. I guess South Park was right, Blame Canada!

Hey, it's not our fault! How would we create a hurricane? 357 Although lots of hot air comes from Ottawa!
Most of our non Hurricane weather comes from Canada into Ohio. From there it goes into Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and then us. I just need a reason to sing " Blame Canada." I was wondering why I saw tropical plants in Ottowa. Cheers
Still, this Hurricane is serious business. There is an INTENSE light show of distant lightning on my southern horizon. Cape May county in New Jersey is being totally evacuated. Apparently, a lot of the southern tip of NJ is low enough to get flooded by extreme waves.

Though the Hurricane is supposed to only be a level 2 hurricane by the time it reaches us, but it should be noted that even Level 1 hurricanes can toss 80' coast guard cutters like toys, and rip apart housing designed to take hurricanes. Structures in this part of the country aren't meant for that.

I'm banking on no more trees falling in my backyard.
I spent last evening watching weather channel and listening to our new emergency radio. Couldn't figure out what to do between the thunderstorm watch and tornado warning and whatever else.
Heard that a train was blown off the tracks in the Burlington area.

Shame about Goderich. Lucky that the casualties/injuries were so few.

Just got back from Bon Echo provincial park where we rode out some severe storms and a tornado watch in our tent trailer...! Eek

We're having the usual end-of-August weather here in Colorado. This time of year, thunderstorms often produce good-sized hail. That's why we have a metal roof. Thumbsup
And what do we have here in Arizona? Yesterday was a record high for any day in August, a blazing 117. it's been like that all week, 113, 114, 116 and now this. Next week we're expecting a cold snap, they say it could get down to 107 later on in the week. I guess I can't complain though with the east coast first rattling and rolling, then Irene attacking.

The best of luck for all you living in the path of this hurricane. Thumbsup
Don't get hurricanes in the Rockies. That's another reason why we live here.
The hurricane is looming over now. I just left my job in Staten Island, NY a few hours ago, which though it is 20 feet above Sea level, was labeled a mandatory evacuation zone by New York City as a storm surge zone. The area around it is lower andcertainly does flood in even minor rain storms, so its going to be bad there (poor Tottenville). at 5 PM EST, everyone has to be away from the shoreline. I'm just hoping no trees fall on the place. Its an OLD building!

so far, the weather doesn't seem so bad, but good luck to all of you in the path of Irene.

We say the same thing here in Arizona waiting one day for California to drift off into the Pacific after one of their earthquakes. Cheers
