In an attempt to let everyone see what they are missing, no one can log in, which means no posting in the forums. All weekend. LOL. Great job, guys. SO I can view static content, which I already can see since I actually am a subscriber, but no participating in the forums until Monday. And yes, I was logged in as of last night, so it's not a failure to set a cookie prior to them flipping the switch.

Randy,

I don't know what "other" site you're talking about. I was able to log onto our old site, and there are so many other RR forums that I can't remember my username or password to try to log onto them. The ones I do remember are all OK.

Regardless, it's always a bad idea to intentionally shut down a site without warning, and even worse to lock everyone out. We try our best to keep things going here 24/7, and only shut down briefly for maintenance or updates.
Well since it's generally in bad form to mention a competitor or potential competitor by name, I'll leave it at that. I was really just blowing off a little steam as I do participate heavily there (lots of people need help! Here, it's me who needs help other than occasional posts in the DCC section). AFterwards I saw that the outage was mentioned in the Hobo Camp already.

No problem logging in.... 8-)

Svein

I just get the "Maintenance Scheduled" page when I try to log on... :?
I logged in there yesterday without problems.
I just logged in at "Z", and posted a reply ---- ??

They're not talking about "Z" it seems. We need to get out more often since we are limiting our scope and will remain in the dark.

Agree, it is bad form and not permitted to bad-mouth or bash any other site or person on any site. Some forums allow you to go further than others, we will in all likelihood, delete those posts and tell the poster why. Unlike some forums, we here have no qualms about mentioning other sites though, as long as it is kept on a positive note. We know that many of our members frequent other forums, and that's fine with us. One of the reasons we left our old place was that there was just too much pressure on us mods and admins to delete any mention of, or links to other sites. We do not subscribe to those kind of rules, so here we are...

Anyway, we can see your frustrations of not being able to log in anywhere, but have patience. All board administrators have problems from time to time. They may not be morons, they may just be having a software glitch and are working on it. Eek
Kalmbach model railroader magazine forums were scheduled for "subscriber only content free for all" this weekend. The word before the weekend was that people who were already logged in by Friday afternoon would stay logged in, but nobody would be able to log in during the weekend.

Unfortunately, someone did something wrong - maybe restartet web servers so cookies got reset or something, so the ones who were logged in before the weekend also got booted off. Right now, no one can log in there and post in those forums. One of those things that happen.

Smile,
Stein
Thanks, Stein...just was about to say the same. They adverted "Full Access" for all this weekend - including normally "Subscriber-Only" areas. As you posted, the access permissions change-over must have messed up somewhere - and I emailed all my local train friends to make them aware of the "Special" ! Hope they get it straightened out - bad stuff usually happens on the weekend !!! Bob C.
I just went over and logged on again, read a couple of posts and left. Seems to working fine. Thumbsup

I got this when I tried to log in. I could be using the wrong login info since it's been a few years since I posted there, but this is what they say. Note that it said, "free viewing", not "posting". I also noticed than no one had posted there the past six hours:
Quote:Customer Care and Registration Center: Maintenance Scheduled

We are conducting a scheduled maintenance of our systems:
From: Friday, October 14, 2011 5:00PM CST

To: Monday, October 17, 2011 8:00AM CST

All web content, including features that typically require site registration or an active subscription to one of our magazines, is available for FREE viewing at this time. Enjoy!

Everything is viewable. You just cannot log on and post.

I also notice that now signatures are showing-up in the posts which I viewed - I had disabled that option when I first joined, so they may not be seeing too much of me in the future.

Come to think of it, perhaps someone requested that change with me in mind. Icon_lol
