Tonight, my son & I saw The Rocky Mountain Express movie (http://www.ontariosciencecentre.ca/imax ... in+Express) at the Ontario Science Centre (only a 10-minute drive from where we live in Toronto).

It was an excellent movie about the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Rocky Mountains in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It showed a lot of history inter-spaced with recent footage of the CPR Empress Hudson travelling through the Rockies. Seeing this on the huge Imax screen was awesome -- it was the next best thing to actually being on the train, not to mention the incredible scenery!

Highly recommended!

Thanks for the review Rob! I saw the poster the other day and was wondering if it was worth seeing. We have an IMAX at the Museum of Civilisation, so I'll have to check the showtimes... Wink

You're welcome ... Yes, we really enjoyed it. It's suitable for railfans as well as non-railfans. The Canadian history and explanations of how they dug their way through the mountains were fascinating as well as sad -- for every mile of track laid, several men were killed (I forget the exact number) & most were Asian. The photography and views through the mountains were also stunning.
I took my three year old to see it today for his birthday. I plan on going back. It is playing at the Omnimax here in Cincinnati. Wonderful views of a handsome locomotive.
