Was finally able to catch NS 8101 after it had made at least 6 round trips over the "Rat Hole" pulling grain trains, and usually as a trailing unit. If we'd stayed a few more hours yesterday, we'd have seen the Reading and Erie units pass through too, although the light would have been about gone by then. So here are a few of the shots I took of 8101:

Arriving in Danville yard, as luck would have it, the sun ducked behind a cloud, but got perfect shot with not so perfect light:[attachment=11573]The decision was made by the YM to fuel the engines south of the yard, so we headed down to that location and I got these shots in perfect light, but less than desirable point of view:[attachment=11572][attachment=11571]*** UPDATE ***
Here's a video of NS 8101 as train 60A leaves Danville http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW4PHqL3UGM Sorry about that annoying squeaking sound you hear as the train passes and don't know what it was other than perhaps it had to do with the new welded rail they recently installed.
Nice Pics!!!
Ed great pictures. Can they be used on NS Cyclopedia under the Heritage Section? I know we talked before about your pictures but I don't want to just grab them and post them, then have you get upset. Let me know
Hey Guys, I have updated the Heritage Page on Norfolk Southern Cyclopedia.

Matthew;
Feel free to use my photos on your web site if you wish. Have had a few other requests too - so I'm pleased that folks like the shots.

Thank you so much Ed. I have pics of 8100, 8102, 8103, just no pics of 8101 until now. Thanks again.
With the use of Ed's pics that brings the Heritage Page up to 7 Heritage Units. Photo's were added and credit was given. Keep them coming guys. If any of you will be in Spencer, NC to see all 20 Heritage units please get as many photo's as you can. They will be there next month from what I have been told.
Look's like the CNJ unit 1071 is out of the paint shop: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.ph...453&nseq=0 (Come on NS - let's see a daylight photo like this!

Still leaves the, Delaware Lackawanna & Western, Illinois Terminal, and Penn Central units to be completed. I expect them to move through my part of the country in the next week or so, but unless I get advance warning (like with the 8101) it will be a crap shoot to catch them and they'll be trailing units - Ugh!
NS Announces "Family Portrait" Schedule... Man - i wish it was closer so I could go!!

I have plans on going and taking my boys, but we'll see what happens to the schedule between now and the show date. Ironically, I might not take any pictures. I know there are going to be plenty of guys who can take really great pictures and post them to the various websites...so I might take a few shots and leave it to the experts to get the better ones.

For those who might be going and not familiar with the local area, access from I-85 is very easy and there is good signage leading you to/from the museum. I'd guess it's only a 7 minute drive from I-85 to the museum gates. The whole museum is not a huge complex, but there are interesting things to see all around the facility. The gift shop is well stocked with all sorts of RR memorabilia so bring your money! Wear good walking shoes and expect to be in the sun from time to time. Most of the areas are paved, so there's very little grass you'd need to traverse. If memory serves, there was no food offered at the museum, but there is a great "hole in the wall" restaurant across the street from the museum building with good food (basic burger and fries sort of place) at a very reasonable price. (If I remember correctly, their shakes are made the ole 'fashioned way with real ice cream.) There is also a great train store next to the restaurant called "The Little Choo Choo Shop" that has everything you'd ever need for modeling all scales from Z to G. Their main focus is HO and N, but they have a great amount of O and Lionel products as well. Plus a good number of fire engines for those who might collect them. Reasonable prices are found throughout the store, with the exception of Southern and some NS engines that tend to be closer to full MSRP. There's several gas stations near the museum if you need to gas up for the drive home. My suggestion is to bring a cooler full of drinks, and go back and forth to your car as needed for refreshments. It's worth the experience to eat at that little restaurant and look across the street at the museum.

Hope this helps!
Ralph...this one's 4 you...http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.ph...700&nseq=0 ...Bob C.
OH MY GOSH SHE IS GORGEOUS. I can't wait for her to come through Lilly. Ralph is going to faint when he sees this one. Cheers
