Just read today that it came down from top NS People that the Heritage Units are to be washed every 45 days.

I sure hope so! Hopefully, 8099's next stop in Norfolk will be the wash rack![attachment=14407]
Certainly having uniquely painted units on point or # 2 catches the eye and with all the railfan and media attention it is surprising that it took this long for such a directive to "come down from on high" so to speak, and from what I can assess via the web, NS certainly keep their fleet looking sharp and CSX's fleet looking shabby by comparison.

Yes railroading is a dirty grimey 24/7/365 all weather sport, but if you were a customer or thinking of investing in a railroad wouldn't you rather tell people that it was the one with the big shiny engines or try making excuses for the railroad with the dirty tattered locos.

Now apply the same arguments to restaurants and service stations you visit, particularly their toilets.

KFC got hammered here recently after someone to a mobile photo photo of the mess on the kitchen floor and posted the photo.

If a business is skimping on keeping things tidy and ship-shape what else are they cutting corners on that may affect your health or safety?

Nice pics! Apparently the PC unit was in Minneapolis not long ago but I didn't see it.

The oil train I shot it on came from North Dakota, so it went through your neighborhood sometime in the past week.
I got to tour the Conrail-painted heritage unit today at National Train Day in Chicago. Thumbsup
They moved that thing out of Chicago in a hurry. I caught it at 4:45 this afternoon 24 miles west of Conway on 20E

I am hoping to get some pictures at the same spot as this. The light should be great even if overcast, and there is a nice high vantage point to set up a tri-pod for video. I sure will miss my Canadian railfan friends this year.
