I just received an old Aurora model motoring race set. It has about 10 cars, none of which will run. I can't even find a forum for this. Does any one know anything about these or know of a Forum that might be helpful?

Les, you might find some information here - http://www.hoslotcarracing.com/History.html
I bought some slot cars at a tag sale a couple of years ago for $2.00. It came with two Indy styled cars and a bunch of track, both Aurora and Tyco. Even had the piece of track that would connect the two different brands. I used my "model railroading loco maintence" knowledge, cleaned and lubed the cars(easier than a model loco) with the LaBelle lubes I use for my motive power, cleaned the steel strips in the track and the thing ran great!

For two dollars, a couple of drops of LaBelle...I was reliving my childhood!

I tried cleaning but no movement.
Are these the cars with the buzz strip for propulsion or do they have a motor?
I have several of both. The power supply is working, the controllers are working. I have tried touching the contacts directly to the power supply. Nothing, It is hard for me to believe that out of 10 or 12 cars none of them even try to run

Les,Some times these cars needs a good cleaning..If you haven't already check the wipers, motors etc.

This is probably the best slot car forum.

Thanks for the information on the forum. I just took a first look and I think it is what I am looking for. I have also succeeded in getting some of them to run, not real good but they are running. Now I am not super frustrated with it and have some idea where to go next.
If is like the set i had.....the cars had a pin that kept them on the track ,two copper shoes that made contact with two silver thin rails that went around the track. You always had the problem with oxidation of everything........clean the bottom shoes with a file or an eraser [like on a pencil]. also the silver around the track ...auroa had sold train a flat eraser for this problem.....if it is the set i think you have and you do this cleaning and cars still dont run......1..check track ,put a silver screwdriver across and see if you get a spark.......2..open car up check magnets [there are two] may need a cleaning, or armature could be rusted or dirty.......................hope it may have helped?

Correct on all of the above. The clincher was the brushes. I bent the electric contact under the brushes up a little and BINGO .
