Hi,

Looking at old harbor maps drawn in the 50s, I often stumbled upon very large "Copper Sulfate Piles". I was curious how this sulfate was moved by rail (open hoppers, etc.). and if it was the blue stuff we know or the anhydrous form. I would make a interesting back scenery item.

I suspect Crystal Copper Sulfate was hauled in covered hoppers and Copper Sulfate (chemical) is haul in tank cars or tanker trucks.

Ans yes the crystals is use to remove algae from ponds,swiming pools and has many other uses.

Brakie, Yes, we are talking about the fungicide.

The funny thing is that it was piled up in the open air according to the maps and old pictures... wasn't there a risk it would have reacted with the elements? I'm just puzzled because Copper Sulfate is blue, it would have made quite a sight in a harbor.
