Guys,
I had made a posting to say "hello" as a new member and was directed Cheers to post some of my work if not all of it over a span of time! SO, I'm gonna do just that!

See below!

So, we have a display case, with NO shelves, to hold 2 Articulated steamers! 357

Questions and comments WELCOME!

This "display case" was designed and made at my home, and in my shop, its going to be placed on the wall in my living room with lights and have my 2 all time favorite steam locomotives in it.....a Brass Akane B&O EM-1 #7600, on the trestle, and the Bachmann Spectrum B&O EM-1 #7614 on the ground.....both having 2 small LED spot lights shinning on them, under 1/4 inch Lexan! Smile
And with the locomotives in place:

Now, I'm going to say this...... This display case IS NOT completed, but, I could not resist adding the loco's for just a few shots to show and give an idea of what its going to look like when completed (My wife wanted to see this) as it will be in "her" living room in the near future!

Svein

John, welcome Welcome

That's a great looking display case, clever idea to build it as a diorama to show off your beautiful models! Thumbsup

Svein
Svein,
Thank you.....As you can see, the top locomotive is a Akane B&O EM-1. I had custom painted the whole model.... The lower one on the "ground" level, is a factory Spectrum B&O EM-1 as well! My 2 all time favorite and prized locomotives out of many!
Nice Diorama.. I always liked Shadow Boxes!!! The bridge brings back great memories. We use to have a B&O bridge near me lettered like that.

Can't wait to see what you more you do with it Smile Smile
Great looking diorama ...lots of neat detail . Nice work !

B&O- - - and articulated ! Thumbsup Thumbsup

The EM-1's were impressive locos !, but I really like the EL3a's. This one is a Sunset Models.

I had to kitbash a "wagon top" caboose to go with it.
Sumpter,
NOW.........I'm jealous! However, whats your take on the Rivarossi Y6b/EL-5? (I know they ARE NOT prototypical, but you will see in awhile why I mentioned them to get your input.....

WAIT till you see just what I'm doing, or well I got in the works to do! I'll be posting pictures, shortly of this!

As for the EL-3a you posted, YEAH AWESOME locomotive!

Thanks! As you know by seeing the display case, the lettering on the bridge is WAY to big to be scale, BUT, I did that on purpose, for the display case......In all, as HO scale, it should be half the height it is! BUT, I wanted it for a "B&O signage" type thing....

I have MANY display cases, that are for the most part, full, BUT being my 2 favorite locomotives I have, I wanted them out of the dust, and in a lighted display case, BUT being all my other display cases are wooden, I wanted something different then the rest for the 2 EM-1's!

At first, I was going to do a straight trestle and leave it at that, BUT I wanted to angle the trestle, which made me curve the ground level track to get around the bent, and then to give the 90 scale foot span of the girder a reason to be that long.....Thats when I added the little paved road. I will be adding yet one more item to this as the case itself, is not completed and ready to hang on the wall. I have 4 LED spot lights to add in the top corners, and then to finish the trees I have yet to add, and I need to add some more water to the ditch on the left hand side.

I also have all the telephone pole lines, along with the Telegraph lines as well...I also have a few "home" things to add....A guy walking/running a dog, for our household puppy, and a white rabbit on the left side under the trees....(These are our pets) So......Then I plan to add in someone walking across the "catwalk" of the trestle.....PLUS I'd love to find a 1942 Dodge Power Wagon, OR a 1942 Ford F-350 or the like in B&O paint for a service truck, to represent the 1944 to '45 era to "date" the scenery......To be close to the years, the EM-1's were new!

As you see, I got alot planed for this one!
So, Now I'm able to make some posts to show what I speak.....

Those of you that knows of the Rivarossi Y6b, they took it in 1978, and made it to be a B&O EL-5, (OR as they thought at Rivarossi) We know that the B&O EL class, does NOT resembles a Y6b, in any way! So, what was the way these were built? They were Baldwin made locomotives, as was the 2-10-2's for the B&O.

WELL, a closer look of the EL class, specifically the EL-3 AND the EL-5, they really resemble the B&O's S-1 2-10-2 boiler.... just slightly longer....

Well get a load of this:

I took a Y6b frame, (the artuclated engine beds and cylinders) and am fitting them to a Rivarossi 2-10-2 boiler....

With this, I didn't have a cab, and have had reason to mold the original 2-10-2 cab to have replacements, which also gives me the B&O "style" cabs....Whenever I need them, and these cabs have also been fitted to Mantua and TYCO steam locomotive boilers.....

This is a good shot of the cab itself. It fits to the boiler, same as a factory part does! I also plan to make the Headend Brakeman cab extension as well with a window for these cabs as well!

I have a long way to go till this is right, and is ready, BUT the time its going to take is for a good reason, I plan to mold these, to offer them in my shop for custom made B&O EL-3/EL-5 to those that have the Rivarossi Y6b to be a "stand in" that will be close to a replica when I'm done!

The tenders, being a Vanderbilt, will also be made to close to replica, as it will require the use of 2 Rivarossi Vanderbilt tenders to make one EL class Vanderbilt tender......

Aloto f work, yes I know, BUT will be worth it in the end!
Then to show another "extreme" build......

B&O U-1, 0-10-0 "Ten-Coupled" #950. This model is being built from 2 TYCO 0-8-0's that have been joined at the last 8th driver to give its tenth one, and brass plating added to hold the frames together, properly spaced. The boiler is being lengthened to complete the whole works. The drive train is 100% functional, and has gotten a geared driver added to where the smoke unit "puffer" cam once, was in the frame to have the whole enlarged to except the new axle gear, this was to rid the use of "TYOCO's Tender Power", or what they called "Power Torque" set up. I then made a custom motor mount, with an added flat can motor to drive the system. Runs well! I will also be adding alot of brass details to this locomotive, sander line pop valves, lifters start valves you name it, will look like a fine piece of brass when completed! The tender to this model will be built from 2 Rivarossi 0-8-0 switcher tenders, as this locomotive has a slightly longer tender then that from Rivarossi factory. Once all the work is done, it will be getting a custom paint job to make the work final on the model.

I will however post pictures when work begins on them, again!
