Guys,
I figured, I'd post some pictures of the model. As is, right now.....

I thought you all might enjoy seeing some of my work, due to the lack of posting any pictures on my part, specially steam! (I actually perfer steam to diesel, BUT alot of times, I'm using mixed media on them, even tho, I do use a ton of brass detail parts on diecat and even plastic steamer models!

Yep, guilty as charged! BUT, when I get a chance to detail a brass locomotive, I pretty much jump right in, both feet, (Or in this case, both hands!)

Without any further adue, here's the progress on my Arbour Models, C&O H-8, 2-6-6-6......

The tender:

Notice "holes" in tender truck side frames! I did this to ALL 4 of them, but only have the picture online of thats seen here, right now! More pictures to come to show more progress! 8)

Well thats the tender posted.....Now for the boiler, and cab of the locomotive!

The Cab:

Boiler front, removed (was put into place when I bought the model!)

More pictures to come when I get a chance, as its got alot more assembled since these were snapped!
As promissed in an earlier posting, heres some more progress pictures of this AMAZING model!

So then......The following picture is a close up of the tender trucks! Notice how all the "holes" were drilled out and then shaped, to that of the real castings!

A shot of the tender, overall!

This concludes the tender for now......next posting will be of the locomotive itself!
Then here we go again!

Notice again, that the holes were also drilled out of the trailing truck that was to support the entire firebox!

On this side of the locomotive, you will see that the first and last drivers, have been plated! YES, thats real Silver plating, over a PLASTIC driver.....This will enhance the electrical system of the locomotive!

Heres the front engine! Notice that this one has most of the valve gear, complete, and only 3 rods of it are missing! INTENSE work, to say the very least!

Other side of the locomotive. Again, you'll not see the "Silver" plating here......As the drivers, sadly are plastic, where black unpainted, now, primered!

More to come!
Some more.....The front of the boiler, and pilot.....

Head on:

3/4 view of the front, and boiler front. Notice, the boiler front is NOT original.......I thought the brass counter part detail, looked MUCH better then the factory original!

Opposite side, same angle:

ENJOY!
And last but not least.....Some oddball shots that I just "threw" in!

Overall Locomotive, WITH tender:

I'll leave it at this for now, more to come as I have a chance to make some more progress on this kit! ALL you C&O fanatics, ENJOY!

I still haven't started on building new frames for this - - - partly because I have two of the Rivarossi H8's, and about four dozen other projects....( the new modules are about done except for rigging two sloops , and a schooner , and....... now, the tour ship )
Pete,

Thanks for the posting! The model of the Vanderbilt you were building in that thread you posted the URL too, what was it? Looks to be an old Kemtron kit?

As for the Arbour Models, H-8, I had read your posting, and I must say, I've got 2 of these models and neither one has the driver issues I've read about.....BUT then again, I also have a mill that made things correct to work properly.... Needless to say, ALOT of work but the thing will pull my house! As I'm not using the factory motor......

There is a trick to getting the factory drivers and axles to spin right.....You need a set of chain saw" chain sharpening files. the 1/8th diameter one. this will "open" the axle slots to spin freely, AND not wobble! BUT, work slow! To much will re-create the wobble again, make a few passes, and check the spin, do it again as needed, and recheck it, and so on....

That tender was posted by Dave Harris, is a B&O prototype, and is a scratch build.
Not bad for a scratchbuilt tender......It looked tho the coal bunker was just alittle to high on the tank of the tender itself....As I don't recall seeing them, that "tall"

Do you know if the locomotive was painted yet as it looked as if the tender was headed for a EL class locomotive....
