Seems the hobby press is following our lead again. In the same spirit of our illustrious Gauge e-mag, I present:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.model-railroad-hobbyist.com/">http://www.model-railroad-hobbyist.com/</a><!-- m -->

This link was forwarded to me by a friend at the local club. Premier issue sounds promising - free, supported by advertisers (who have direct links in their ads), but...

:hey: Dial-uppers (and even some high-speed liters) BEWARE... Issue #1 is 122 pages resulting in a staggering 77 MB size when zipped!

Eek Good luck. Wink Big Grin

Icon_lol Oops all well Misngth

Im exited for this to come out 2285_
I started a new thread with this announcement for those on dial up, but thought I would add the info here as well. Model Railroad Hobbyist E-mag has come out with a "lite" version with lower quality graphics and less rich media to make it friendlier for dial up users. They also recommend the "lite" version for Mac and Linux users.

I downloaded the full/original version of the mag sometime last week, im on a Mac and i had no problems opening or reading through it. It was a GREAT mag so far, i scrolled though all of it pretty quickly, and now i need to go back and re-read it lol
I'm on a pc with fiber optic cable internet so I don't know about Mac or Linux, just quoting the web site. I'm glad to hear it downloaded for you. One thing I like about Model Railroad Hobbyist already is that they are thinking about their customer base (us). With Winding Road Magazine, when I want to read it, I need to click view "full screen" to get the printing big enough for me to read and then the pages are wider than the computer screen so I have to scroll back and forth to read the mag. I also recommended Winding Road to another gear head who was on dial up. He emailed back that after waiting an hour for it to load, he gave up on the magazine. He subscribes to most of the hot rod and Chevy muscle car type mags. He just wasn't interested in jumping through Winding Road's hoops to read another car mag.
Hi All:
Thanks for the link. I downloaded it to my desktop, with comcast cable, and it took about 5 minutes. It has lots of promise, really clear pics, and my first reading on N decoder installation was pretty complete for their selected applications. I need to go back and go through from beginning to end, but I liked what I saw so far.

I like the fact that they are able to provide this resource for a great price of free. For me in Canada I don't like the cost to get magazines(we usually have to pay a couple dollars more). I am already looking forward to the next installment.

PS If anyone who has a say in what goes in it sees this i would encourage you to add some Canadian content. Lately this is a topic that seems to be lacking from most major publications.
Beamish, at the end of every editorial or article there is a link to post comments to them. I think they intend to eventually have a forum on their web site for people to discuss the magazine contents. Just shoot them a comment asking for more Canadian Content. If there are enough of you guys and gals North of the border asking for Canadian content, I think they will respond with it. It may mean some Canadian modelers contributing some Canadian content. Generally, authors in the model railroad press write about what they model. Joe seems to have a pretty good bunch of writers representing most of the various parts of the U.S. I'm not sure how many Canadian resources he has.
