One of our retired NHL hockey players , Nick Kypreos , was scheduled to run the NYC marathon that he had been training for . When he arrived in NYC with wife and kids , found out the race was cancelled , he looked around at the storm damage . Nick used to play for the Rangers ( when they won the Stanley Cup ) so had some connection to NYC ....decided to stay and help out . I guess Nick and family went and bought supplies to hand out to needy folks ....he was quite moved by what he saw ...called it " looking like a 3rd world country ".

Lets hope the so-called movers and shakers , the people in lofty places , can use their supposed influence to DO something positive ....this has been taking far too long . Ordinary people have been doing a good job of helping each other from what I've been seeing .

Unfortunately, they're still assessing the damage. Remember, some of these areas are so densely populated that cleanup is still going on, people seeing what they can salvage, and trying not to further destroy what remains. It's just an absolute mess. Some areas can still only be accessed by foot.
