C'mon , there has to be ONE that sticks in your mind .

For me , well , gotta be the Christmas of '55 in the sense that my mother remarried and I had both a father and step-father trying to impress me at Christmas . Got a new bike ( 2 wheeler ) and a Marx train set . I was "in heaven " for a long time after that . Tongue Tongue Boy , did reality set in after that Christmas ! Wink

Some may understandably ( and hopefully respectfully) disagree with my personal choice, but I nominate the `WHEN/WHERE' as Bethlehem, Israel, about 4 B.C. followed on an equal standing with its completion at Passover approx 33 A.D. outside Jerusalem on a hill and then outside an empty tomb. The "WHAT" is actually a "WHO", and I think that the person is self-evident.
For those of appropriate belief/persuasion/joy.
Regards,
Andrew G.
I'll always remember this gift from my childhood fondly! I was so into the space program in the 60's!

AND 1955 American Flyer Comet passenger set with PA. and 3 cars are too close in my memories to determine which was better. I think they were both equal at the time I got them. The only two Christmas gives I can remember with any clarity.

This CORGI TOYS - MAJOR - 1130 - CIRCUS HORSE TRANSPORTER WITH HORSES was an overwhelming xmas gift when I was a little boy. It was so expensive I did not even dreamed to get it at xmas. Money was very short at that time...

It is amazing where Google did find a photo and where an auction is running with that old toy

About 10 years ago - I think --- My wife's parents treated us all... their 3 children and their spouses and their 4 grandchildren and themselves, of course... to go to New York City on a day tour to see the Phantom Of The Opera on Broadway.. It was amazing!.

My third time visiting the Big Apple.. and we went to a restaurant and everything on the menu was named for a celebrity. I had a Stan Laurel.. A club sandwich with all sorts of fix-ens Smile I could barely finish it, a mean feat for me Smile Smile

The Opera was indescribably beautiful and the cast were fantastic!!
I agree , Mikey , seeing a well done play/musical unfold before your eyes is pure magic ....as good as watching a symphony orchestra come to life . I saw Cats in Toronto back in about '88 and was most impressed ....never been to the Big Apple .

One of the few times that we went out as a family, I remember going to see the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall. I was pretty young so I don't remember much, but I do remember seeing those Rockettes on stage. Thumbsup That was fun.

As far as a getting a gift that I could hold, it's hard to say. We were always into many smaller things rather than one or two big things, but I think the gifts that I treasured the most were the woodworking tools that I got over the years.
What stands out in my mind is the Brownie 127 my Aunt Stella gave me for Christmas in '56 since I was interested in photography..

Yes,that outshined the Fort Apache playset I got that year.
This year I recounted the (or rather admitted) my tale to my family about the year that I received an Imperial Walker "AT-AT". I so desperately wanted one of those things for a couple of years ever since the movie came out in the theaters. When I saw the toy version of it I'd beg my parents to get one for me. I'd honestly given anything to have one. It was not cheap at the time either, I was around 8 years old and the cost was about $50.00 dollars if I remember correctly. Hasbro saw me coming a mile away I tell ya.

The year I received one, I remember noticing a fairly large box under the tree a couple weeks before the big day. I remember the anxiety trying to figure out if this was the year I'd finally get one eyeing up the suspiciously large box. It was then that hatched my diabolical scheme. When no one was around I grabbed by 12 in/30 cm grade school wooden ruler (I brought it home just for this reason) and carefully measured the length, width and height of the box. I wrote the measurements down and stored the paper in my nightstand. Later that very week, I tagged along while my mom went shopping at the local Consumer's Distributing (anyone remember those?). I brought with me my trusty ruler as my mother placed her order at the counter. On one of the display shelves in the store the object of my desires sat. So I measured it and memorized the dimensions in my head. Much to my excitment when I got home the measurements were exactly the same.

It was pretty hard to be shocked on the morning of the 25th. But I still tried real hard to look excited! Wink

My mother had no idea I had done this and when I told her she looked at me, laughed and said, "You little bugger, you!"
I am afraid I am getting old. Google was needed to find out what Imperial Walker "AT-AT" is Confusedhock:
Nice story anyhow Big Grin
Me too , Reinhard .

I can remember the worst Christmas ...I was about 14 and decided to snoop around the house when my parents were out and I knew the gifts wouldn't be wrapped yet . Then I had to "fake it" Christmas morn . Nope Bad move .

I did likewise, but I spotted a box marked "plane" underneath my parents bed. "Woopie, Thumbsup Santa is gunna bring me an airplane that I can build and fly", I thought. I anxiously unwrapped a present to see what kind of plane I got, and well, it was the first of many woodworking tools that people gave me over the years, but it was a big disappointment for a 12-year old at the time. I wish now that I knew where some of those tools went. Icon_lol
