Funny I did not even know about this challenge (must have been my CRS kicking in).Anyway this is my completed challenge.I have been talking about this backdrop for over a year.The layout now lives at the club so it was time to get off MY duff and do the backdrop.The only thing lacking is clouds and that ain't happenin'with my talent (or lack of).

Not fair! My backdrop is way bigger then that!

No need for clouds, just pretend that you're in Arizona, on most days there's not a cloud in sight.

The pic is of my Z layout.It is 5'8"long,narrow end is 24"wide far end is 30" wide.I just picked up some new lights for it today .The ones you see in the picture are close to 40 years old.

The layout is going to gain another 12"in length and will be extended to the right roughly 5 more feet but that won't happen till sometime in April.

Actually the layout will still be to small but I am sharing that end of the room with my friend Bill's N scale layout.His layout will be growing also.
Both of these layouts have show duty and are usually shown together.

Arriving "safely in a pretty well-preserved body" is an absolute waste of "body", kind of like buying a new car, and then, years later donating it, with only the miles "from the dealer to the garage, on it"
It isn't life, unless it is lived well !
No, I won't " skid in broadside ". I'll be too "thoroughly used up",and too "totally worn out", for broadside skids. I intend to arrive so used up, and so worn out, that I'll need a swift kick to get over the edge and fall into the grave.
I will take all my unfinished projects with me so there will be plenty of "Get Off My Duff Work" to keep me eternally "putting it off"

At our age, it's kind of hard to arrive anywhere without a bunch of scratches, dents, bumps and bruises. :o I still have a few miles to go, but along the way I think I've already dented a few fenders, my headlights are dimmer, have tires that are going bald, need to put additive in my gas tank just to get started in the morning and I think going some 70 odd years putting in the wrong oil has severely damaged my engine. Like they say, it's not the destination as much as the journey even if it's been a bumpy one full of potholes. It's all in how you steer that keeps you on the right path and your attitude as to whether you enjoy the ride or want to go back and start over again.

Actually, I remembered a while back someone pointed me to the author of the quote, I just haven't updated it for my signature. It was said by Hunter S. Thompson. I've had to edit the grammar as a the signature count limit prevents me from including all the commas, quotations etc... but the words are still there in its entirety. Just skimming on his wiki page, seems like he was a pretty infamous character this Thompson guy was... :?

HST was the prototype for the character Duke in the Doonesbury comic strip.
