Over the last few days I've had to log-in every time to every site I visit, including BB. This even when I check the "Keep me logged in/Remember me" box that usually appears at the log-in window. What's going on..?? Before this, I would log-on once every now & then, but now it''s every time, and is VERY frustating.

I tried Microsoft's Help, but couldn't get any information that would fix the problem...How strange...

So I turn to you guys, knowing that you are more computer savvy than myself. Any help would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance....

The first thing that I'd check is that you have your cookies enabled for here. That's how we know that you're logged on. If they are, than the next thing we always recommend is to clear out your history and cache. If you don't know how to do any of this, let us know and we can guide you through the process.

This is not a Microsoft function, but one that your browser does, so MS wouldn't be of help unless you are using IE as your browser.

Thanks for the quick response...

As you might suspect, I don't know how to go about doing any of this...
So, a walk-through would be most helpful....

OK, the first thing we need to know is what browser are you using? Things are a bit different between IE and say, Firefox or Chrome. Basically, they're the same functions, just in different places or names. If you're not sure, when you open it, go to "help" and at the bottom of the list, you'll see "about Internet Explorer" or "about Firefox". Click on that and you'll find the version that you are using...
Thanks....It's Internet Explorer 8...running on Vista.
OK, I apparently have IE10, but I think the procedure is the same. To clear your browsing history, cache (temporary internet files) and/or your cookies,

Go to "Tools/delete browsing history" at the top of the browser
There you will find a page with all the things you can delete. Just check the boxes that you want to delete the data from, and uncheck those that you don't.

Click "delete". Remember, this cannot be undone.

We normally suggest "History", Temporary Internet Files (cache)" and "Cookies and Website data". This will mean that you will lose all your login info from all the sites that you've been logged onto, but doing this may solve your problem.

I cannot see where you can enable or disable your coolies on IE, but there must be a way so I'll keep looking. You are right, the MS "help" site is no help at all....
OK, I found how to enable/disable cookies in IE10. IE8 is the same:

1. Click Tools and select" Internet Options".
2. Click on the "Privacy" tab.
3. Turn the slider up or down for the degree you want. Full down lets you accept all cookies, including third-party ones. That's not always a bad thing though... I've got Firefox set to do just that.
4. Click on "OK"
Well....I followed your instructions (several times) and....No Change. Curse
It still prompts me to log-in everywhere I go....

Worse still...In Facebook, after logging in, about half-way through the messages, it interrupted me saying I was not logged in, and to please do so...

Seems to me like my computer is not being "seen" by these sites....
So....what next..?

Frustated in Brownsville...
Hi Gus,

Just out of curiosity, if you fast click a couple times on the user name box when the log in page comes up, does your name appear as an option to click on? This happens to me...I'm not logged in like I think I should be but it's a quick click or two to log in because my user name appears when I click on the empty user name box.

Ralph
Gus, is there a possibility that you've picked up some sort of a virus or some malware? Something like that is hard to diagnose. If your cookies are enabled and you've cleared everything, I'm kind of at a loss. I have no idea why Facebook won't let you stayed logged on.

Try this, log onto Big Blue, then leave for five or ten minutes and come back and see if you're still logged on. We have a timer that keeps you logged on for I think 30 minutes. I just looked and can't find it right now, but if you do come back and you're not logged on, something else is screwing things up for you.

Ralph, I think that's a function of your browser and "saved passwords". If you have several names to log on somewhere, you would have to type in the first letter for that box to know who you are. For example, both me and my wife are registered several places and I need to key in the first letter before it knows if it's me or her. It will then fill in the username and the password for us. The same goes for here. Sometimes with Firefox, it doesn't always work and I need to go to my "saved password" list, since I rarely can remember what password that I used.
Gus, make sure there isn't a check mark in the "delete browsing history on exit" box on the first page ot tools/ internet options/general tab

Ralph, I think "auto fill" is the function that does this for user names, IE will offer to save password.

Gus:
I mentioned this before. I've found a couple of places where I can't stay logged in on the Gauge and some other forums. One was the campground we summer at. Without my doing anything, when we return home it works perfectly again. Have found situation in a few other campgrounds. Have you had your connection altered at all lately?
Hey..!!

Don, Ralph, Charlie, David....(Did I miss anyone..??)...

I believe the problem is with IE....I turned to my trusty Mozilla and it behaves itself. I think I'll remove IE for the time being, and re-install at a later date (maybe....).

Thank you all for your interest and help... Thumbsup
Just an epilogue...I "repaired' Windows using a program I found online, and things seem to be back to normal.

I hope they stay that way... Nope
