I have an HO MTH steam loco equiped with Proto 3 sound for DCS but I can't get any sounds with an NCE DCC. Could a different decoder, Tsunami or others, be used to replace the MTH DCS decoder? I tried doing what MTH says to do for sound with NCE DCC but still nothing works. Thanks.
Gary,

First up, I have to ask the duh questions.

Did you turn the locomotive on? did you mute the locomotive by accident? On my MTH GG1, I have to hit the "3" button to get things going, and its easy to accidently shut off the sound on many sound locomotives by hitting other buttons the wrong way. triple check your instruction manual and make sure you're operating it properly.

If you're trying to program the sound, it needs to be done on the main, not on the programming track. Have you attempted to reset it?

That said, OLDER MTH locomotives have appalling DCC compatibility. I would find out how old your engine is, and then call up MTH and see if they will update it for you.

You could got the Tsunami route, but its another chunk of your money and time that, with an expensive unit like MTH, you shouldn't have to do!
