JohnB sent me Burlington Northern CB&Q 8299 box car. Its destination is Railway Express Agency,R.E.A. Located at Clifton forge on my layout. The first appearance on my layout passing WH cabin, this is as it comes out of a hidden yard. It is the first car in the FFV (fast flying Virginian ) passenger train.

Here it is passing behind a farm house probably shaking the dishes in the cabinet. It is running full steam at this point as it is at the base of a 2% grade.

Now the Berkshire 2760 is earning her keep. Pulling heavy weight coaches up through the mountains.

Now it is crossing Mud river.

Continuing along going through Barboursville. You can see the destination in the back ground.

Even the local law makes an appearance.

Still moving along.

You can see the coal cars at the Guyanne Power company and some old buildings behind it as it continues on its trip.

Just a few photos as it moves along.

It is now approaching REA. I will continue this at a later time.
That's great Les! Looking forward to more!
I finally got around to more photos. As you might remember it wqas approaching th REA building.

Looks like it stopped at the station.

Now they have uncoupled it and pulling away.

Ok now I see the switcher takes it now.

And “away we go”

Now to feed one hungry power house.

Getting the passenger train ready to roll.

coming out of the yard and crossing the west bound then the eastbound into the REA building.

Easing into the platform.

Finally in place ready to be unloaded. Stay tuned it still must be returned.
Nice shots Les! I like seeing all of the crew men at work.

The camera only sees what is there. Wink
The REA workers had a problem with opening the door. If you look at the top of the door in the last of the series just shown, better yet I will re post it here so you can see the problem.

Their office called the Chesapeake and Ohio Clifton Forge car shop and they sent someone out to hopefully repair the problem.

Hopefully he can rectify the problem without calling for more help.

Stay tuned for more action!

That's a great

I have that same car,,,Same color, Road, Road #, but it's got the "Way of the Zephyrs" legend on one side and "Everywhere West" on the other.

Was this a common practice (painting different legends on the same car..??)

jwb

Yes it was, at least with UP, Burlington, C&NW, and some others.
Well the door has been repaired and the car has been unloaded. It will be going out with the next west bound passenger train. Here we see it coming into Clifton Forge station.

Now the locomotive 490 is uncoupled and pulls away

It runs on down to REA here it is backing across the eastbound main to get Burlington 8299.

couple up and ready to go.

Pull it out of REA.

backing to the passenger train.

Time to get it rolling. One last photo passing REA as it leaves Clifton Forge.

Les,

You have a real knack to taking photos from the perspective an HO scale observer would see things. Are you using just point and shoot digital camera and laying it on the layout, or do you have some other kind of setup?

I have an old Kodak Easy Share Z740 at least 10 years old. Set it to manual, f8 adjust the shutter speed to correct exposure and using the timer shoot away. Sometimes it is on a tripod sometimes set on the layout. I also sometimes play with lighting effects. I have had limited training in photography... lets say a long long long long time ago. It was my desire to become professional in my youth. Some of my photos like the one where passenger train is coming into CF I don't care for but feel I need to make the story complete. I started to use this one but didn't

Probably should have. Smile
