Here are some pic's of a project i been working on. The co. is World Wide Grain they lease a spot in the the Dundee transload yard , they unload covered hopper cars into 20' containers to be shipped overseas . You can buy used ( Damaged ) containers for scrap value $$ & they made a building out of them. They dump into a pit in the building a blow it into the container to be driven to port Newark.
Good use of the containers!
It's made out of foam poster board , paper , cereal box & wooden coffee stirs for roof truss , cost me 1 dollar for the foam poster board from the $1.00 store Thumbsup
Here is PRT 1528 switching Wold Wide Grain
Very nice work, I do have a question. There is a giant eye bolt in a couple of photos and my curiosity is getting me. Is that for lifting your layout for space?
Yes it is !!! I winch it up & down in a 2 car garage , That's why I mostly only work on it on sundays ( cars occupy that space during the week!!!)
How big is the layout?
About 4 1/2 x 8 1/2.
A perfect example of the argument that there is a place in our hobby for tabletop layouts.
Very impressive, I have heard about doing that but never seen it. It appears that you have electric hoist.
This is the only way I could have a layout , I had to make a way to raise & lower it (the only room for me) The layout is a work in progress ,But the lifing system is done . I use a electic drill & ( some things from habour freight for under 50 bucks) to power the hoist up & down , is that something your interested in seeing ??? I know that there are some people who thumb there nose at 4x8 layouts , But mine is an operating switching shortline line RR ,They don't have alot of trackage , NS uses NJT trackage to deliver 4 cars to an interchange track & My RR (PRT) has trackage rights to run on the NJT to the interchange & bring the cars to a small county owned transload yard , a small bio fuel plant & C&D facillity. I can run a NS local GP 38 , short 2 car NJT & my PRT locos. Thumbsup

There are several good 4 x 8 layouts here, including GEC's. Let's see more!

I agree I think I will start a thread for that.
